Blog #6 Due: Monday 10/6/14

This week I want to know about the main character in your book.
What is he or she like? Describe his/her personality. How does the author Characterize them? Give one example of the STEAL that we learned in class and tell us what Character traits are present in your character. Are they stubborn, snobby, compassionate, positive, etc.

Make sure to give me an example from the book to support your description. Don't forget to include the title of the book, author, and what page you are currently on. Make sure your post is at least 5 sentences. Remember to also respond to 2 other classmates!

The book i am reading is called "The Twinkie squad", by Gordon Korman, i am on page 54. The main character in my book is commando,he is currently on six grade he's small with black hair and brown eyes, he is very aggressive, he is always in trouble, and that's why he is in the twinkie squad.Commando is also a very happy person, but he is rude and mean sometimes,he is cruel when he wants to be cruel. Commando once grab a kid by its neck and pull him up, sounds very aggressive but its true. so that's my main character on my book.

My book is “Between the Lines” by Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer. I am currently on page 137 of 356. My main character in my book is Delilah. She’s in high school but she’s not the social type. “I’m weird. Everyone says so. I suppose it’s because while other fifteen year olds are talking about the best lip gloss and which movie star is hotter, I would rather be curled up with a book.” She prefers reading whenever she can. She lives a hard life not having many friends and not many people to turn to with her problems. Her friend Jules and her mom are the only people she really talks too. She’s a shy person and doesn’t like to big in larger groups of people.

The book I am currently reading is "The Breaker Boys" by Pat Hughes, and the page I am currently on is 155. The Main character in my book is Jeff because he is like the leader to all the other boys. Jeff is the boys who goes find work to do and it doesn't matter what it is he is going to get the boys to help him. Jeff is a compassionate caring type of guy. "awe look at him he's so nice and loving" says Mrs. Avery. Jeff is one of the most loving guys in his town he makes sure that if he see's anything wrong he will try to fix it. I prefer you to read this book because it's young kids that like to work, that's why I like it.

The book I am currently reading is Showoff, by Gordon Korman, and I am on page 114. The main character in my book is very sneaky, like me. In the book Griffin, the main character, has a nickname. It is the man with a plan. His plans always sound so full proof, but when it actually goes down something gets in the way. Griffin likes planning. Obviously his nickname tells you that. But whenever he does want to do something he is to caught up in a plan that he doesn't have time for anything else.

In the book he wants to quit football because he felt that his teammates were treating him poorly. His attitude in the book changes as his friend Chris makes him better at football. When he got better, he decided to stay on the team. \

The book I am reading is called Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rolling, I am currently on page 343. The main character is Harry Potter. He's a wizard who was raised by his "muggle" family Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon, and his cousin Dudley. He is supposed to be the "bane" to the dark wizard Voldemort. As such he had to become courageous. Harry also had to use his wits in order to survive the many hardships set before him. Harry likes to play the wizarding sport "quidditch." He seems to think that's all he is good at. His has two best friends Ron Weasly and Hermione Granger.

I am reading The Last Apprentice revenge of the which and i am on page 95. The main character of this book is Thomas Ward, who has been taken by the spook as an apprentice. With this job, even though he has only been in it for about 6 months, he has to be more brave than you could imagine. "he's been in bed with a bad fever for this past week so he's sent me to take his place. I'm tom ward. His apprentice". This is evidence that he is brave from he actions, since this would normally be a job for a well trained spook, but he did it anyway.

@emasio6 Sounds like a cool book,

I'm reading The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, I'm on page 105. The character who this books point of view is from is Nick's. Nick is a very straightforward guy, he's kind, and he does help people when needed. An example of his willingness to help is [spoiler] when Gatsby needed his help so he could have a lady over for tea, he was very fine with it and had no problem with it.

My main character is Steve Thomas and he is a sports reporter. He gets very jealous about a lot of things like when he lost his job and they gave it to somebody who didn’t even know sports, or how his girlfriend is spending a lot of time with the new reporter. He is always in the middle of the trouble no matter where he goes. But he is very courageous because even when he knows that he is going to get in to trouble he still sticks through with it till the very end. He always has a tired look on his face so people always tell him that he needs some sleep.

I picked up from where I left off in a book called Let's get lost by Sara Gruen. I'm on page 103 and the main character is Isabelle. Using STEAL, you can easily characterize her by her actions. Isabelle is very rude and would be considered a bully. She even has her own little group of friends who are the same way. They party a lot and drink even though they're under age. At one of the parties, Isabelle meets a boy named Smith and begins dating him making him think she's 18 when she's actually 16.
From these actions and choices Isabelle makes, I would say Isabelle is very misbehaved and reckless. She can also be considered rude from her speech and the tone the book gives her. Isabelle is very rude to her father and usually ends up fighting with him.
Al though Isabelle acts like this and speaks like this, her thoughts differ. She doesn't want to be this way but she is afraid to let her guard down. Ever since her mom died she has been this way and she doesn't really understand why. She always tells herself how badly she wants to change. Deep inside she knows she's rude and reckless.

I am reading "The Ghost in the Machine" by Patrick Carmen and I am on page 164. The main charecter in my book is Ryan. The point of veiw the book is told from is first person. Ryan comes across as a trouble maker. He usually goes along with whatever his friend Sara tells him to do. He's also a bit shy to people other than her. He is a very detective like. Using STEAL an action Ryan does to make me think this is he tries to sneak in to an abandon building to investigate the death of a worker there long ago(of course it was Sarah's idea).

I am currently reading Scarlet, the second book in the Lunar Chronicles series, by Marissa Meyers and I am on page 360. Scarlet, the main character of my book is presented as stubborn. She is strong and independent just like her grandma. Page 207 paragraph one line 4 “Half the time we would end up fighting with each other, because we both have such big opinions and are too stubborn to admit were wrong about something.” One example of STEAL is on Page 206 paragraph 6 “when I lived with my dad, I used to throw fits, and tantrums, and break things and make up stories.” The steal represented here is speech. This sentence shows that she is rebellious without saying it in the sentence.

I'm on page 314 of The Rule of Three and the author is Eric Walters, and this is realistic fiction. The main character or Adam personality is mainly a mix between smart and tactical or dumb and winging it. The author characterizes him as a smart, thoughtful, and lucky person. This falls under speech: Adam says"Herb, I know you fired the gun, but I know I'm just as responsible>" This meant he didn't kill anyone but he helped Herb kill someone. This shows that he is responsible for something he didn't do or take the fall for. Adam is a caring person who always or tries to go with the best option on keeping people alive.

bmitcghell2: That sounds tough for Steve and good summary.

Currently I am reading the elegantly written book “Four” by Veronica Roth, and I am on page #223. This book, instead of being like the other books in the Divergent universe, are from Four’s perspective, though in Abnegation he is known as Marcus Eaton and Evelyn’s son, Tobias Eaton. Normally the books would be from Beatrice (Tris) Priors wonderful POV, but you can learn from this book more about Four’s history, well more than what you can learn in the Divergent Trilogy, “Divergent” “Insurgent” and “Allegiant”. Tobias, since he was born originally in Abnegation, must, at least try to become as ‘fearless’ as a Dauntless born initiate. He is often nervous when he is pitted in a social interaction between people he may not know, though when he is in the ring, he will not stop fighting and will not care about your little welts and bruises from past fights. He learns from his past and of what he is taught. Tobias talks quite intelligently because his father was the person in charge of the Abnegation faction, though sometimes in the beginning when he was still learning to forget his Abnegation ways he was afraid to step out of line when he said something to someone who might be stronger than him. After two or so years of being in Dauntless Tobias is able to be a teacher to the new initiates from Dauntless and transfers from other factions. Sometimes he may be rash, and is not very quick to come up with a convincing lie to his superiors but most of the time he just tries to fit in, pretending to be a Dauntless born instead of a transfer, especially a Stiff.

I am currently reading The Raft by S.A. Bodeen, and I am finished with the book. The main character of the book is Robie and she is selfish. The author describes the character as selfish when she pushes a man overboard and he dies so she can save her life. The author uses E from steal to represent her because she pushes him over and that effects the family of the man.She never thought of the effect it would be when she did that.

My book is "The Chronicles of Vladmir Tod" , "Eighth Grade Bites" by Heather Brewer and I'm on page 118. My main character is Vlad, you can describe him as an easy going person or "lazy". For example when he and his best friend Henry were talking, "Did you do your h.w."Does putting my name on the paper count?" Also one time on halloween Henry dared Vlad to do something daring. " What would Mark and Todd think if they saw?" "But then why should he care about what they thought." Proving he is an easy going person and doesn't even mind what the very people who bully him thinks.

My book is called "Theodore Boone:the abduction" by John Grisham, and i'm on page 161. Theodore is a very sweet and quiet kid who doesn't really get into trouble. He has a friend named April Finnemore who has been abducted and everyone is trying to find her.he might only be a kid but he takes the responsibility of organizing a search party against his parents wishes and he takes everything as if it was a court hearing. One of the examples of S.T.E.A.L is that he's very sarcastic like on page 145 he said "home alone.serial killer in the basement." His mom left him at the house by himself when he really didn't want to be there so he was being sarcastic towards her. he's the really strict type of guy and has a schedule every day.

I am reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and I have finally finished all 722 pages of my book. The main character in my book is a young boy named Kvothe. Kvothe is extremely intelligent and very aware of it. He is also witty, sarcastic, and a little bit evil. For example, at one point when trying to find a horse to take him 70 miles in one day, he tells the man selling him a horse, "If you sell me a horse that throws a shoe, or starts to limp, or spooks at shadows, I will miss a valuable opportunity. A quite unrecoverable opportunity. If that happens, I will not come back and demand a refund. I will not petition the constable. I will walk back to Imre this very night and set fire to your house. Then, when you run out the front door in your night shirt and stockle-cap, I will kill you, cook you, and eat you. Right there on your lawn while all your neighbors watch." He also threatens other people in the same way throughout the book, which always made me laugh and disturbed me at the same time.

The book I'm reading is the ultimate Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, and it happens to be written by Douglas Adams; I'm on page 90. Arthur Dent is the otherwise hapless main character in an epic journey across the cosmos. Arthur is usually found in his bath robe and pajama pants. The unfortunate reason for that happens to be, because his home world known as Earth got destroyed for a intergalactic freeway. He invariably learns many life lessons in his odyssey across an insane, and chaotic universe.

I am finished reading Holes by Louis Sachar and the last page was 233. The thing about Stanley is that he has a certain effect on the people around him in the book. “You know I feel kinda weird with you reading over my shoulder” “I don’t know how to read. These words stuck with Stanley because it bothered him because zero didn’t know how to read. This problem helped Stanley at end when they realized that the treasure they where looking for was his great-grandfathers treasure.

I am reading “How My Journal Became a Bestseller” by Julia Devillers and I am on page 180. I am almost done with my book. The main character in my book is Jamie. She is very enthusiastic, friendly, and outgoing. The author characterize her by showing it in the book indirectly. For example, “I was really happy when I got to be on TV! But I was a little worried about the interview.” This shows Jamie is shy sometimes, but she is really outgoing.
This is an examples of SPEECH.
I like the way she always overcome herself even though sometimes it is hard and difficult.

But even though he couldn't take anything with him he still took 2000 zloty (money) with him. "Using a needle and thread of my mother's that had been left behind, I tore out one of the seams in my prisoner coat and sewed the money inside." Pg. 78
He is a very strong, brave, and hopeful young man who will survive the Nazis taking over.

My book is "Nightmarys" by Dan Poblocki and I am on page 238. My book has two main characters in it. The first on is named Timothy July and the second ones name is Abigail Tremens. Timothy is very curious and nosy. Also he is very persistent and he tries to get stuff done. Abigail is a quiet and mysterious girl. Okay so Abigail always cares i lighter with her and one day in class she was lighting her sock on fire and then it would just put its self out. Abigail is also has a sensitive side. like one time in the book Abigail and Timothy were looking at this painting for there school project and then they got all wet and Abigail started getting really upset and ran away crying. So that is my two main characters.

I am reading All the Lovely Bad Ones by Mary Downing Hahn and I'm currently on page 161. I actually have two main characters Travis and his sister Corey. Corey is a great liar, a brilliant story teller, and actor because even though she never seen a ghost they believed her storymorning. "last winter, I was sleeping over at my friend Julie's house, and something woke me up in the middle of the night. This old lady was standing at the foot of the bed and staring at Julie." Corey paused to let the suspense grow. "The next morning I expected to see Julie's grandmother, but when I asked where she was, Julie's mother said she lives in Pennsylvania 'then who was that old lady in the bedroom?' I asked, 'There's no old lady here,' her dad said. "Just then the phone rang, which brought upon the news of her grandmother's death which was right around the time when I seen her. She'd came to say goodbye." Mrs.Jennings graves her husband's hand. "Oh I'm all over goosebumps." This shows her effect on others and thoughts because the next time when there was a ghost sighting at the Inn they all came to Coreythoughts believing she's a physics. "The next morning, Corey and I (Travis pov) found the Jenningses waiting for us." "Did you see it? , what do you think it wants?" Said Mr. Jennings.
Travis personality is A prankster and a helper, and someone you can rely on to help you out especially if you're telling a lie. "A couple of hours later, we parked our bikes in front of a tourist-bait shop, and went inside. We found white and green face makeup, black stuff for Corey's eyes, dark purple lipstick, and a bunch of other junk- rubber eyeballs that glowed in the dark, plastic spiders, rubber snakes, spray-on cobwebs, a haunted-house sound-effects CDs, a lantern, candles, and flashlights that casts a blue beam. In a secondhand store, Corey bought a long white filmy scarf." This was all to play a ghost prank on the guests at the Inn. Travis actions shows how he is a prankster.

Ms.Starch is a very strict, responsible, and controlling teacher. She is always on top of things. In the book it talks about how she had almost never missed a day of teaching except when one day she had "accidentally rolled her car while swerving to avoid a rabbit on the way to school" but even then she still called in sick! I believe that shows she is very dedicated to her teaching job.
