I'm reading Sand Dollar Summer by Kimberly Jones and I'm currently on page 172. In this story the main characters mom is in a bad car accident and is hospitalized for a while. I can relate to this because when my dad had a heart attack he was in the hospital for a while, too. The main characters mom had to do a lot to recover from the accident, like physical therapy and not being able to do anything. My dad had to stay home for an extra month and couldn't do a lot of exercise so that his heart would heal.

I am currently reading Eggs by Jerry Spinelli and I am on page 93. I can relate to the main character in the book because at one point in my life, I made a friend who was the opposite of me. Just like him, it was difficult for me at first. The main character struggles to find things him and Primrose have in common. I also found it hard in the beginning to make friends with her, but it ended up being worth it.

I am currently reading 'Ghost is the Machine Ryan's Journal" by Patrick Carmen and I am on page 67. So far in the book it has talked about an unfortunate event that took place which resulted in the main character breaking his leg. Because of this event, Ryan, the main character,is no longer aloud to see his best friend Sara. Since Sara was with Ryan when he broke his leg his parents are blaming Sara saying she is a bad influence. I have had this happen where my parents jump to conclusions without knowing the whole story.

skunklersulaica3 said...

I am currently reading Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins and am on page 115. In the book Katniss has had to move because her house got destroyed. I have also had to move, but it wasn’t because my house was messed up or anything. It took a while for her to get used to the change of a new area. This was the same for me because I moved to Florida and it was took a while to get used a new school.

The book I am currently on is called "House of Dark Shadows" by Robert Liparulo, page 145. This book can be relatable to anyone who knows what it’s like to move to a new house. I got that feeling also when I first moved to a new house. I thought the house was creepy, or someone was "supposedly" watching me. I can’t really describe the feeling, but I'm sure it was just because the house was new to me. We all get those feelings, and that's how I can relate to my book "House of Dark Shadows".

SHenderson4 said...

I am currently reading Lost in the River of Grass by Ginny Rorby and I’m on page 58. In the story one of the main characters wants to go on an airboat ride. This is something I’ve wanted to do in the past but have never been able to do. When she finally gets to go on an airboat ride she goes with a guy named Andy in the Everglades. In the Everglades the area she was at was like a forest, I can also relate to the because my grandparents live out in the woods so I can get a good picture of what the place looked like.

kyesbik6 said...

qdjames: u forgot to capitalize and put space between your periods.

I am reading "Tunnels" by Gordon Williams, I have recently finished the book. One of the many connections I have found between myself and the book that I can relate to is that Will Burrows is an adventurous and curious boy, I myself am adventurous and curious to learn new things. But I also relish it when I find something. Will is constantly searching the mines he and his father made and when he finds a new relic and unearths it he is always so excited. I am also excited when I discover a new book or any item that I can learn from. Also Will Burrows likes the Victorian time period, and that’s when all the items he found where made, which I also like because for some reason I love basically anything from that period because everything is unique.

@SHenderson4: "House of Dark Shadows sounds like it would be an amazing book, I think I would love to read it

@amountain4: I've read Mockingjay and it was a pretty good book, and I also liked reading your post :3

I am currently reading "The Odd Squad" by Michael Fry and i am on page 43. This book has related to me from a time in the past. i can connect with this book because I can relate to how they are feeling. when I was in kindergarten me and two friends did not fit in. At the beginning me and my friends got bullied then we stuck together and became popular.

I finished reading The Paladin Prophecy by Mark Frost. What I can relate with the character is that we are both not very popular at the public school we went to. The main character of the book actually was taught to stay under the radar at school. The main character lived by a book of rules his dad wrote for him. Another relation is that we both have great parents that care about us. Until the book character's parents were taken over by a mind control creature living in their neck.

Sugar and her mother, Reba, have a hard time dealing with that, they then have some financial problems. I can relate to Sugar because when I was younger my Grandfather died and I was really upset about it. My mom was even worse it was really hard for our family to get through it. We also had some financial problems but those had been started before so I know how sugar is feeling

This relates as a connection to me because I sometimes don’t have choices on what I want or do in my life. Like in the book Jonas is worried on what he will be picked for at the ceremony. I feel just like Jonas sometime when I can’t pick, like at school I can’t say I don’t want to do the HW I have to do it, just like Jonas has to do his job no matter how hard or boring it is.

when i went away for a long time i was over 30,00 miles away from my sister, shes 18 years old now yet she still isn't the same if i am not there with her. We are very close and we know each other secrets. we get along very well just like Anne and Sophia, and we both trust each other and look and expect guidance from each other.

In my book, notes from a small island, i have few connections between my life and the book. but if i were to find one i suppose it would be our shared comedic view points on many subjects. we both have a tendancy to go about things in a very humorous and sarcastic manner, making points as long as possible by trailing of on long tangents and loosely tying them into the main subject, while making as many jokes as possible.

I am reading the last apprentice Revenge of the witch, made by Joseph Delaney and I have just finished the book. Although this book is fictional and pretty far fetched there are some relatable things that happen in the novel. One thing is that in the book Thomas must take notes on various things and after a while his hands starts to ache, this frequently happens to me because I find myself writing very fast and I often have to spot and give myself a break. In one part of the book Thomas is harassed to give some other kids some apples and cakes from the spooks bag of food, he says no and walks away. When he tells the spook the story though the spook says he could have given them some and this is relatable because it is really embarrassing and frustrating when you say or do something and later wish someone would have told you before hand the correct thing.

@gmsmith7" I've also had a friend like this maybe it would be a good read for me.

@shenderson4 I definitely know what your talking about. New houses are creepy

I am reading Scat by Carl Hiaasen, and I'm on page 231. A connection I have to one of the characters in this book would be to Nick Waters. Nick's dad is in the military and he had his right arm blown off by a rocket while he was deployed in Iraq. When Nick's dad gets hit by the rocket he has his best buddy with him, but he dies. My dad used to be in the military and he was deployed to do some work in Iraq. He also had a buddy who was in the field, and he was hurt very badly and died. The only difference is my dad did not lose his arm, and didn't do any field work, just technical stuff.

In this story the main characters name is Robie and she is almost kidnapped so she tries to take the first flight back home and the plane crashes. After the plane crashes she is stuck with the pilots nephew max and he's pretty much dead now from a major bump caused b the disruption of the crash. I can relate to this because, i have been stuck outside of shore at a beach for 20 minutes before. The characters in my book are stranded for longer than 20 minutes, but it is the same idea which is being stranded in water. Gladly i got back to shore before it had got dark. It was by far the worst beach experiences that I have ever had.

Another difference is that her best friend moves and she tries to keep in touch with her. I have to read the last part.

I just finished my book. My book was the 'hunted' by Kirsten Cast and P.C. Cast. It is the 5th book in the 'House of Night novel' series. In this book I can relate to the main character, Zoey Redbird because she is very unique and often misunderstood. All of the humans think she dangerous yet beautiful because she is a young vampyre and all of the other vampyres think she is beautiful and very important because their goddess, Nyx, has chosen her to become the next high priestess of the Vampyres. However, she is just like all of the other vampyres. She is nice, happy, and really smart. I can relate to her because though I am not very important like Zoey, I am too, often misunderstood. People often think I am shy and depressed, but if they would just give me a chance they would know I am really nice and silly.
Also, Zoey has to face many problems and people in the book. One of her problems is that this dark angel who had been trapped in the earth for thousands of years had been released and he was trying to take over. He bullied Zoey and all of the other vampyres, but Zoey knew she had to stop him from taking over the House of Night. These problems scare her very much, but she is always very brave and faces her problems. I can sort of relate to this. I have been facing several problems in my life for a couple of weeks now and these problems really bother me. However, I have been trying to be brave as well. Even though Zoey's problems and life are much more unrealistic and interesting, I feel as if I am like her. From the very first book, I could connect with Zoey Redbird and I do believe that may be why I love this book series so much.

It's so happy to me, like charlie got a golden ticket. And charlie likes to share like me! I like to share too. When I share chocolate of food with people it's more delicious and happy.

I am reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and I'm on page 208. In this book, the main character is part of a "troupe" that is pretty much a traveling circus, and even though they are not all blood related to him, they are practically family. They travel from town to town, only staying in one place for a couple of days, so the troupe is very close because they never know anyone else. But when he goes out to gather some supplies from the woods, he comes back to see the camp in flames and everyone in the troupe murdered, including his parents. He goes into a state of shock after this, and runs away into the woods, and tries to forget everything that has to do with his family. I can relate to this because if something like that happened to me, I would probably react in around the same way, without the running away into the woods. He also has a few keepsakes from his family, which are his father's lute, and a book he got from his best friend/ teacher. He treats these like they are precious gems and protects them with his life, and I would do the same thing if I were in his situation.

I'm a little similar because even though I'm the youngest in the house, I do most of the carrying, fixing another word I do everything my mom and sis can't handle. Because my mom has a bad leg and my sister is like"tiny" and she can't carry heavy things. For example she can't even carry her suit case out to her car and I had to do it for her, or cleaning the fan like getting the dust off I'm the tallest so I had to sit on the ladder on clean it.

I'm reading the book Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard and I'm on page 61. In the story the main characters are Aria, Emily, Spencer, and Hanna. I can relate to what they're having because they all seem to have problems with whatever they are doing. Whatever they do backfires on them getting themselves in more and more trouble. One time, I tried to do something really crazy and it totally backfired on me, so I ended up getting in trouble.

BMcbride5, I love that book! I love how there's so much suspense and drama. Plus, the movie Catching Fire is amazing.

THines6, I've always wanted to read that book and watch the movie. Sounds like an amazing book!

I am currently reading "Dreamsleeves" by Coleen Murtagh Paratore and I am on page 37. A connection I found between me and the book is that I have lots in common with the main character, Aislinn. Aislinn, or in the book known as 'A', has a few struggles in her life. Or things she tries to overcome. I do to. She also , like me, is in charge of a lot of things at her home that she has to handle herself. Lastly, she sets goals for herself. I do aswell. They're all things that make a big connection. I feel I can relate to A a lot and I understand her. Thats what makes the book a lot more interesting to me.
@alandi4 , Great response. Seems like you can really relate to the book.
@rraisch6 , I've read that book. It's much better than the show in my opinion. Hope you enjoy reading it. (:

I'm reading ender's shadow by Orson Scott Card and i'm currently on page 64. A connection between the book and my life is that i can relate to the main character, bean because he is smart and I am smart aswell. I'm also shy like bean when it comes to meeting new people but then i'll just get over it. One other connection I have with the book is people underestimate me to get things done just like bean but I still get it done. The last connection I have with the book is that If such a thing were to break out like in ender's game I could probbally survive just as good as everyone else.

I'm reading Smiles to Go by Jeremy Spinelli and I'm currently on page 116.In my story the main character has an annoying little sister who bugs him all the time and i used to bug my big brother just like the way she bugs him. He's also a kid around my age who goes to middle school. He has friends similar to mine and hangs out with them every week just like me. Will also has crushes just like me and he is just a very realistic person, someone i could imagine knowing.

hwerther3 said...

@acchristian I have read that book and that was not a good explanation you should put more detail in your comment before going to class.

@jmsmith7 Im also reading a book by Jerry Spinelli i'd love to read that book next it sounds great!

I'm reading The Raft by S.A. Bodeen and I'm on page 131. In my book the main character is left alone at an apartment by herself for a few weeks after begging her aunt. After the first night she wanted her aunt back with her because a person was grabbing on to her outside. He wouldn't let go until someone stepped in. I could relate to that because once I got to stay home alone something happened and I didn't want to stay home alone for a while.

The book I am reading is “The Lions of Little Rock” by: Kristin Levine. I’m currently on page 232 of 291. In the book two girls (Marlee and Liz) become best friends, but Liz leaves school without any word of where she went. Marlee soon finds out that she wasn’t white, she was black going to an all-white school lying to everyone during segregated times. Marlee doesn’t care what race Liz is she just wants her friend back. Liz is spotted coming out of church one day and Marlee hears about the church, so Marlee goes to the church trying to find her friend. She doesn’t care what she is, she needs her friend. This is like my life because I need a friend every day to help me be happy. By surrounding yourself with people that make you happy you’re going to have a better life. Marlee is trying to do this, but because things are segregated she can’t have those friends and opportunities to be happy.

I am currently still reading One for the Murphy’s by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. I am on page 117. The main character Carley Connors is currently living with a new family that wants to adopt her. The family has a mom and dad and three brothers. The only connections that we have are that we are both the same age, we both have siblings, and we both have had to get used to a new life. I have experienced this when I moved from Puerto Rico to Florida with my family. It was a complete change, I had to learn a new language and make new friends.

@kyesbik6 good job on your post, keep reading that book because I remember reading it and it was a really good book.

@BHastings3 i read that book last year and it was really good. It is one of my favorite books.

I am currently reading "Scat" by Carl Hiaasen and I'm on page 52. So far in this book I have a connection Libby and her dog Sam. Libby and her parents had to chase Sam around the house at 2am. Eventually they got tired of the "game" Sam was playing. My dog Tank likes to chew his toys, at the same time my little brother likes to steal the toys from him. Its funny watching my brother run down the hallway with the toys and watching Tank chase him down to get them back.

@RRaisch6 great connection!

Well, i'm actually done with my book I, Emma Freke and the book pages were up to 233. My connection with this book is, well basically she discovers who she really is, because she decides with a push from her best friend, that she wants to know why she is different. After she sounds out she embraces it, and I feel that even though I know who I am and where I belong, I know I'm different. In the inside I'm different and this book teaches you how to embrace your uniqueness. She realizes that she might be similar to some relative, but she knows her heart is what makes her different. All she is trying to do is fit in and I tried doing that until just like her I realized, me being different is what sets me apart from everyone else. Another way this story connected to me was that she knew how to cook and clean and do many things, just like me. However it wasn't because of the same situation, it's just that I learned from my parents.

Dnova5 said...

DWhite3 I love how you connected your animals with your book, it must be more interesting now!

I was the captain since day one until I was replaced by one of my colleges. My teammate and I were the dream team on the news. When i heard the what was happening not only my heart but my teammates also had been mutilated in to pieces. This relates with my book because the main character Stevie was replaced by a boy band celeb.

I'm reading Varjak Paw by SF Said and I am currently on page 112.
In this story a young ambitious cat is set on a journey to save his family. And in some ways i can relate. for one, Varkjak's Grandpa is killed, i can relate because my auntie passed away. When he is kicked out of of his home, it reminds me of when my brother did the same thing.

I'm reading All the lovely bad ones by Mary Downing Hahn I'm currently on page 64. A connection I have discovered between my book and my life is the pranks Travis and his sister Corey play on the guests at the Fox Hill Inn. The play pranks making it seem that ghosts are at the inn to trick the guests into thinking that there's actually ghost. Until they actually do start to wake the ghosts up it connects with my life because I like to play pranks myself sometimes or just joke around. But then sometimes those things starts to actually happen or sometimes when I talk about certain things it starts to actually happen. Also when I play around and play pranks it ends up coming back to me.

I am reading The Alchemyst the Secrets of The IMMORTAL Nicholas Flamel, the author is Michael Scott, and I am on page 29. I have found no real connection with my book with me, but I could say there just learning about what the basic start out is in the story. How this is a connection with my life is I am just learning all the basic stuff about middle school. I can’t find any connection I think because my life right now is not all really out there at the time. Also I am still at the beginning of the book kind of so that’s probably, also why.

I am reading Heat by Mike Lupica and I am on page 110. Micheal, the main character, is very similar to me in many ways. Micheal isn't only a fabulous pitcher but he also is the best catcher and center fielder on the team. On my team I am one of the best pitchers on my team, and I'm also our teams' best catcher and center fielder. I am reading May Bird by Jodi Lynn Anderson and the Ever After and I finished the book! But in it, May had always carried this gem rock. This reminds me that when I had carried a small notebook filled with pictures(no, I can't tell what KIND of pictures because they're secret),but it wasn't as special as a gem rock. But it was awesome and I had carried it around everywhere. I would never live a day without it.

I'm currently reading the book City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. I'm on page 713 and the genre is fantasy fiction. The connection between the book and my life is simply because in the book series they have a breed of super soldiers or Shadowhuters, they were created by angels when demons where ravaging around the world. It is connected to the games I play, such as halo, destiny, and titanfall. Halo has super soldiers known as spartans to battle an alien race, Destiny has super soldiers known as Gurdians to protect the last safe city on Earth and push back an ancient enemy, and titanfall has their own unique soldiers called pilots with supreme maneuverability and wall scaling. I am only about 30 pages away from the end I forgot the book is just too far away for me to reach at this time.

jmsmith4: That sounds like an interesting book and a good connection.

kyesbick6: that connection with the forest and the airboat sound interesting.
