With your Author's purpose in mind, what is your Author's Point-of-view on a topic in your book?
If you get stuck think about the video clips we watched in class.
Remember to include Book title, author, and current page number. Your response must be 5 sentences and do not forget to comment at least twice on other posts.

I just finished reading The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. Ithink the author's purpose for writing the book was to entertain the readers. The book makes you feel a lot of different emotions, at one point you'll be laughing out loud then the next minute you'll be on the verge of tears. But this book also gives you a lot of information like on turles and piano playing, but that is just a minor part. Over all, this book never failed to entertain me. :)

JDewitt6 said...

zphillips5: That book sounds very good and the book I was reading was also to entertain.

I am currently reading the Black Duck. I am on page 225. The authors purpose is to entertain the reader, because its a mystery. You never want to put the book down and it seems like your watching a movie when you read it. The authors point of view is first person because there telling a story, but its also thrid person because when the charactor isnt telling what he experienced, the narrator is.

JDewitt6 said...

anichols2: I was about to read that book but I didnt, it sounds SO good.

I am reading witch and wizard the gift I am on page 106 it’s by James Patterson. My book is to entertain because it is all about this young girl and her older brother and they both have magical powers thus the name witch and wizard. I am really enjoying it. I think the author’s point of view was to simply entertain the reader not to inform about anything or to persuade and definitely not to explain anything. It is simply made to be read not to do anything else it is for enjoyment ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kflanagan6 said...

JDewitt: I like the descriptions that you gave when you explain why the book was entertainment.

P.S. your perfect lets get married. <3

I just finished Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen. I believe the author's purpose for writing this book is definitely to entertain, to share a love story in the life of a group of teenagers. The author's point-of-view was probably that you should be careful because anything could happen and change your life just like that. Also, I think she wanted to show that you should spend every moment you have with someone well because unfortunantly they could be gone the next day. Like Micheal passed away just a day after Scarlett saw him and she was stuck to take care of a baby the rest of her life, while it would have been so different if he was there.

sbogue2 said...

jdewitt6, it sounds like you picked a great book! I want to read this book now after I heard about how much you liked it. IS this one fo your favorite books now?

sbogue2 said...

anichols2, that sounds very interesting! How does it say she visited Heaven? Does it say she died, then came back to life or she jsut went there and came back down?

I finished my book Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen 2 weeks ago. I'm currently working on my second book, Perfect You. I think the author's purpose for the book, Flipped, was to entertain. I believe it was to entertain because throughout the book it can be funny, sad,and even romantic. The authors point of view is 2nd person because there is two sides to the story. It flips back and forth between two characters telling you the story. This book was really good and I enjoyed it alot.

Astephens5 said...

sbogue2:
I loved that book! Good choice

Astephens5 said...

Anichols2:
That sounds like a good book. Did you like it?

I have finished reading Warriors: Omen of the Stars: The fourth apprentice by Erin Hunter. I believe my authors pupose is to entertain. She is not persuading anyone or informing anyone. I believe the point of view in my book is third-person subjective. You change point of view (character POV) in every chapter. By the way, I never saw the video. Is it important?

nmongo2 said...

The book that I just currently finished is "Among the Hidden". The author of my book is Magaret P. Haddix.I'v just finished the book, so i'm not on a current page. The Author's Purpose is to explain how foodlost empacted the population. I think her point of view is that in the future we might over-populate and there could be a possibility that the goverment could enforce a law that we have to limit down to about two children per family.

nmongo2 said...

ejones6, Did you read a biography? A little more detail about the book but good overall.

nmongo2 said...

TMartinez5, Yes the video is important, she showed it in class. I have read "Warriors" great book!

msimons6 said...

i read framed and the author is Gordon Korman. I think the authors point is to entertain. Because he puts in a mystery to make you wonder who it is. He also puts in strange caracters to keep it enteresting. And i just finished the book.

I just finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, by J.K. Rowling. I believe that the Author's Purpose for writing is to entertain the reader. She does a good job at this, because whenever I am reading the Harry Potter series, I can never put the book down. It entertains me so well. I think that the Author enjoys magic and exploring what she can do to expand the stories and details. I think that she probably enjoys the thought of magical powers, wands, witches, and wizards.

astine2 said...

pdixon6;
That seems like a really interesting book to read, maybe I'll read it.

astine2 said...

nmongo2;
That sounds like an interesting book. It reminds me of the show Terra Nova, how they were only allowed to bring 2 children with them..

MRichards5 said...

The book I'm reading is called Firestar's quest by Erin Hunter, and I just completed reading the book. The author's point in writing this book was for enterainment, because it includes a plot about overcoming something that doesn't generally happen in real life, since it includes talking cats that gather in clans.

MRichards5 said...

@anichols2

In my own personal perspective, I would think that this would be something more entertainment, since it has to do with someone ggoing to heaven, and their travels. However, I don't have enough information to conclude this.

MRichards said...

@zphillips5

What's Traitors about? It sounds like a good book.

Khaldeman2 said...

I am currently on page 186 of The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. The author's purpose is to entertain readers with a true love story. The authors point of view is in first person because the main character Noah explains how he feels about his true love Allie, and seeing her for the first time. This book is really addicting and I'm really enjoying it.

bhoffmann2 said...

I just finished reading the book Peeled, by Joan Bauer. The author's purpose of this book is to entertain people with a story that builds up suspense and curiosity. A topic in my book is that people think a ghost was haunting their town and seeking revenge on innocent bystanders who crossed his path. I think the author's point of view on this topic, is that people normally find ghost stories interesting and that you never know what people could believe from something they think is realistic. This book turned out to be really good. It went a little slow throughout all of the reading, but by the end I was actually extremely glad that I decided to read it.

bhoffmann2 said...

astine2, whenever you're reading a book in the Harry Potter series doesn't it take your imagination into the world, and wish that everything in the book (minus you know all the deatheaters and stuff) could be real and like literally experienced by you? I want to meet the actors and actresses who played the parts in the movie so badly it's not even funny. Have you seen all of the movies?

bhoffmann2 said...

khaldamen2, have you ever watched the movie for that? I mean, I know it was kind of innapropriate, but it was so adorable and sweet. Is the book better than the movie? I imagine they would be the same because they are both such a good love story and it's also sad, that I don't think you could really change how good it is, but it might be possible, so what do you think?

anichols2 said...

sbogue2,
I know alot of people who have read that and they said it was awesome.

dhileman6 said...

The title of my book is "The Boy Who Dared", by Susan Campbell Bartolotti. I think the aurtor's purpose is to inform. The book goes into a lot of detail about what the Nazis did. They harrassed the Jews and made them wear symbols to show that they were Jews. The author explains how life was in Germany.

anichols2 said...

kflanagan6, it sounds like a good book. How many pages are in it?

bferguson2 said...

I just finished reading the book Twisted, by Sara Sheppard. I think the purpose of the author writing this book is to entertain. It's a mystery and realistic fiction. It always has me flipping pages for hours, and wondering what's going to occur next. Sara leaves you hanging with jaw-dropping endings and events that you would think never to happen. I really enjoyed the book, just like I enjoy all the other books in the Pretty Little Liars series.

anichols2 said...

msimons6,
aren't those books really lon. How long do you think it will take to finish the book?

I am reading Gone by Lisa McMann. I’m currently on page 157. My author’s purpose in writing this book is to entertain the readers about a girl who gets placed into others dreams. Her point of view is first person. This book is the last book to the Wake series and it has been a great series to read, so far I’m kind of confused on what choice the main character will make.

Jfox5 said...

the book is called hatchet. i jus got done reading this book but i left off on page 195. i think the authors purpose was to entertain and inform how to survive in the forest.from my point of veiw i think that brian has had a really hard time with the divorce from his parents and with being stuck in the forest but some how he pulls himself together.i think the point of this book would be keep moving foward. this book is written by gary paulsen and its still the best book i ever read.

I just finished reading The Last Song by Nicolas Sparks the page i last read was 463. I believe it was to entertain, with all the love and the problems for her summer and the summer romance. The authors point of view on the topic that her dad has cancer is 3rd person, becuase it uses he and she and is in everyones thoughts. Also it is the sadness because when he dies.

cwilliams6 said...

I just finished reading Latasha Holcy In His Hands, I really enjoyed it. The authors point of veiw is 1st person because it's a autobiography and she uses I alot.

I have just started the book The Lying Game by Sara Shepard. Right now I am on page 48. The purpose of this book is to entertain. There is no information or persuasion in this story so the only option left is to entertain. It also is partly a mystery which usually is a entertaining purpose.

mmcclendon said...

pdixion6; wow... that book sounds intresting it almost makes me think of harry potter

smasingil5 said...

I think the authors purpose is to entertain because through out the story theres humor but theres also many bad things that happen. I think she has entertained me very well. I really like the book so far but theres alot of deaths. My book is the yearling and the author is Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and i am on page 508. I would recommend it to any one that can take sadness.

I am currently finished with schooled, the author is Gordon Korman but I am looking for a new book at this minute. I think the author’s purpose of this book was to entertain because he takes a boy who is excluded from the world and puts him into a public school.
I think his point of view of this book schooled is that anybody can be popular. He means everybody, and I think he also thinks that we need to reach to our highest.

@Zphillips5 By third person do you mean someone has been writing about the main character the whole time?

@JDewitt6 I love that book black duck and I really love mysteries even more.

JHouston6 said...

I am currently reading Hoot, by Carl Hiaasen and I am on page 58. Carl Hiaaasen's purpose for writing this book is to entertain the reader. It is not a very serious book and attempts to make things funny. I think the point of veiw the author has on the main topic of this book, which is the protection of animals suchs as the burrowing owl, is very serious. Though Hiaasen attempts to hide it in this book underneath humor and excitement.

I am currently reding the book Diary of a Wimpy kid: The Ugly Truth, by Jeff Kinney. I'm currently on page 111, and I think the auther's purpose is to entertain. His point-of-view is a middle school boy named Greg heffley having social prolems in his life. He uses jokes and funny scenes in the book to entertain the reader. He had a fight with his best friend Rowley and has some hardships with his family in this book. He needs to do something quick to get the friendship ontrack again.

sjun1 said...

His point of view is 1st person because he uses I

SJun2 said...

I am reading Passion and Purity by Elizabeth Elliot and am on page 14. Her purpose for writing this book was to inform, explain, and persuade. The whole book is about her relationship with her former husband, Jim, who was killed by Indians in the Equadorian Jungle. She is informing you how they fell in love and about their adventures. While she explains to you what she thinks is an honorable relationship. Also, she is trying to persuade you to think the way she thinks.

I am currently reading the 5th book in the Pretty Little Lairs series I am on the 13th chapter. Again I love this book! With the author Sara Shepard you never know whats going to happen to them next! I think these books ensnare my attention by having the most subtle detials, I also feel that the authors purpose is to entertain, I feel that way because the book is always having me on the edge of my seat I never feel like the charecters are secure so I have to keep reading. The book Series was made into a t.v. show which is on its 256 or something like that episode.

The book that I just recently finished was called Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schreiber. I think the authors purpose of writing the book was to entertain you and to tell you to not judge people by rumors you hear about them, because they could actually be really friendly. That is what happens in the book were the main character is named Raven. She meets a guy named Alexander and everyone thought he was a vampire. But after Raven meets him, he turns out to be really nice. The author wants you to that not all rumors are true.

My book is Halo: The Flood, by William C. Dietz. The authors purpose for writing this book was to entertain readers wit ha story about humanities willingness to survive any threat no matter how great. At the same time as he was writing to entertain, he was also trying to promote the video game franchise in which the book is based off. His point of view is not direct in the book but instead tells the story from the perspective of the main characters.

I am currrently reading is One True Friend. The authors is Joyce Hansen. I just started raeding this book so i am only on page 7. I think the author's pupose of this book is to explain, that if I was separated from my brothers and sisters, I would want to look from them also.

I am on page 33 of the Westing Game, by Ellen Raskin. I think the author’s purpose is to entertain, because the genre is mystery. Everyone is wondering who the heir of Samuel W. Westing is so they can obtain all of his money. I believe that Ellen wished that she were one of the characters in her book, because she’s describes the rooms in hotels as if she’s in a dream. In the book, you feel different feelings between the characters, whether they’re bratty and stubborn, or kind and nice. You also switch from all the characters’ views. Over all, details really make this book enjoyable!

The book is definitely from a 1st person point of view. The reasons why are cause not only does he refer to what he is doing by using I but he is constantly discussing his inner feelings and thoughts.

I just started reading Woods Runner by Gary Paulson. I haven't read much of the book yet but i can tell that the author's purpose is to entertain. I can tell by reading the back of the book because it talks about the main character, Samuel. He is a young boy that lives in the country part of the U.S. when the Patriots are fighting against the British king near Boston. His parents are taken prisoners and he goes into hiding. You can tell that the story isn't to persuade because they aren't persuading anything. And they are not informing.

She’s not trying to persuade you to do/think something, and she’s also not trying to inform you because the book is not about trying to explain or provide information about a topic or an event. The fantasy genre of the book and the general theme of the book are to entertain you, it’s a book you should have fun reading.

lwooley5, That book sounds like a really fun read. Also, the message of "don't judge a book by its cover" is a great message.

fklanagan6, I love your simile when you say that when you read the book it was like you were watching a movie. The book must have had plenty of descriptive words if it was that visual.

I am currently reading Runaway by Wendelin Van Draanen. I finished this book few days ago. I think this authors purpose is inform. Because it shows a lot of ways and chanlanging to live the world and learn many things. And I think author's point-of-view is there's a lot of ways to solve the problems or situations you have if you think in positive way.

I am currently reading Taken, by Edward Bloor. I am on page 31. The author's point of view is to entertain, because this book takes place in the future. Also, it tells a story about a new job occupation of kidnapping children and demanding there ransom. The author's point of view is first person, because they always refer to them self, by using the word I.

The book i'm reading is double dutch by sharon draper and I am currently on page 10. since i just began this book i'm for sure what the author's purpose is. However from what i've read do far I thinks it's to entertain and it's somewhat to inform. It's entertaining because at school the students joke around with each other a lot. Also I think it will obviously inform you on the sport of double dutch.

I am reading A Time To Kill,by John Grisham. I'm on page 255. I think that the author is trying to entertain the reader. He provides a story that seems like it could really happen and it has a storyline that is hard not to read. Also he feels as if it is not right to commit crimes and hurt people.

anichols2,
