My favorite part of reading this year is when we read A Day No Pigs would die. This was my favorite part because i really enjoyed the book itself. I also enjoyed all the projects that came along with reading the book. I wish we could read this book all over. I also enjoyed the fun times we had together laughing in class. What A great Year!

I am reading Shooter by Walter Dean Myers. I haven't really had a favorite part in my book. My whole book is an interview. But I guess if I had to choose a favorite part it would have to be the parts in the interview when Cameron was mean to the interviewer.

sharriett4 said...

I liked that book alot.

My favorite part of reading this year is when we did they debate thing where we had to make a song. It was my favorite because it really brought everyone together and it was really fun. It was fun because we all got to talk about things we didn't like into a song I had the lunch rap and we got to talk about how we didn't like Mrs. Kidwell talking and about how nasty the food is. But almost all the big things we done this year was really fun and it has been a great year!

ale2 said...

@sharritett4 I think you might've put your blog 10 in the wrong spot but your book sounds like a great book.

@dtthomas1 I also really like that book and it was one of my favorite things the whole year also.

My favorite part of Reading this year was the Shakespeare insults. They were funny to translate. Antonio and Gabe were so good at it. It was so funny. I also liked the days when we didn't do anything like when we came back from Skate Station and it was chill.

My favorite part of reading class this year was when we read the book "A Day no Pigs would die" I liked that book because I personally have a pig so I was already interested in the book. They whole environment of the book was good. It also showed that not every story has a happy ending, many may argue that is was a good ending but I personally think it was a sad ending. I've really enjoyed this year in reading class.

My favorite part of the year was when we were on the Harlem Renaissance unit. I really liked that unit and also Mr. Kovacs made it pretty fun. I actually liked all of the units this year. So it was pretty hard to chose only one. I also am kind of sad that the school year is ending so fast, it has been a really fun year.

My fAvourite part of reading is when we finished the books and did a Socratic seminar. Also I like the midsummer night's dream. This is because it is a play. The ss is my favourite because how we are so open. Also how we communicate with each other about the book we have read and what we think about them.

Tmwaldon1 said...

Henderson4 I agree with you
KCox6 that sounded fun to read I was not here

The best part of this year's reading class is when ever we get to perform something during class. Sometimes it plays, scripts about vocab, and especially the play map performance. It's fun to think of poems, rhyming, and our acting. Although also it's entertaining to watch what people think of to do. We haven't done much of that in other classes.

kbooker2 said...

My favorite part this year in reading class was when we did the Shakespearean insults. It was funny to hear people talking in a different way and it still be funny.

Shughes6 said...

My top part of the school year in reading class was the novel we did called a day no pigs would die.it was a good story and we all read it and the activity so we did has a group were fun.it shows not everything ends good but sometimes sad or opposite of what you expect.also it was cool to have the intern.i think we should have done a 2nd book together in class.

erowland4 said...

My favorite part of reading class was definitely the time that we got to put on a court case. I also liked the time we did the Shakespearean insults, that was really funny. This year has been fun in are class whenever we had to make the songs or raps in class. I am exited to do perform the a mid summer nights dream play.

My favorite part of reading class this year was our Socratic Seminars. The Socratic Seminars was my favorite parts because they always got very intense and funny but also it was an easy way to get points. My favorite moment of class this year was when we read the story Spunk and had a debate about who was guilty. The spunk debates was my favorite moment because our class always did extra and got into each other’s faces. It made everything more fun and exciting.

awhitfield4 said...

@ erowland4 i agree with you about Shakespearean insults, they were funny.

awhitfield4 said...

@Shughes6 I also liked a day no pigs would die.

Dgivens2 said...

My favorite part of the year is when we worked on Shakespeare because we got to learn about different ways they spoke in this time period.and also when we got to go against each other.also I agree with a aWhitfield and erlang 4 on how the scratch seminar was by seeing how the people reacted to someone getting murdered.

mscott2 said...

I would have to say my favorite moment in Reading Class would have to be the Spunk Court Case. It was very fun being a lawyer. I don't think I've ever been so aggressive towards a team before. Another event would have to be the Midsummer's night dream rap. I had fun making it. This year has been challenging but it has taught me many things.

mscott2 said...

@Dgivens2 I like the Shakespeare part as well.

@erowland4 I enjoyed the court case too.

sbell4 said...

My favorite part of reading class this year was when we read the book a day no pigs would die. It was my favorite because the book was so emotional and interesting. I laughed and I actually cried. I love animals a lot so that part really got to me. plus I also liked how it wasn’t an ending that everyone was expecting. People were ready for a “happy” ending which honestly wouldn’t have been real. This ending was believable and just kind of unpredictable. Overall, I loved the book and going over it as a class and hearing that people shared the same feelings and thoughts as me was really cool. One of the best books I’ve ever read.

sbell4 said...

@kcox6 i feel the same way

sbell4 said...

awhitfield4 i agree i loved the socratic seminars! they were always so interesting. especially because of the guys in our class

Lrepp4 said...

My favorite part of this class this year is how the energy isn the room was always positive. We never had a dull moment in class. If we did someone would always turn the mood happy. Also we were somewhat free in a way were we could have fun. You gave us freedom.

My favorite part of reading class is the times we do Socratic seminars or the movies we get to watch. I like the Socratic seminars because you get to express your self about the book we read in class. I also like how the grading system is arranged. I like watching movies because we usually don’t have to do anything but enjoy it. Because it is not all the time you get to watch a movie.

mcolton2 said...

I really didnt have a favorite part about this class. But you can say my favorite part this year was when we did little projects together. Like a the project we did for "A day no pigs will die". I really liked that project , because it was fun and it was team work. Nobody argued and nobody complained about who was in there group,everybody got along with one another.

JFox4 said...

My favorite time in reading class this year was the first day. This was because during the first day, we didn't have any work to do. I enjoyed seeing friends who I hadn't seen over the summer who were in my reading class. There were a lot of other fun times in class, but they required work and I am lazy. All in all, this class has been alot of fun all year long.

JFox4 said...

@sbell4 A day no pigs would die is a good book.

JFox4 said...

@ajoseph5 The Shakespeare Insults were O.K.

My favorite moment was when we had to memorize Titania's speech. I studied about an hour or two a day. It was fun to say the speech when Titania said it in a Midsummer Nights Dream. I would finish the speech for people who did not know the whole thing. The movie was really good to watch.

mwaters1 said...

My favorite part of the year was when we had debates. It showed how we can all work together to back up or go against something. It was also really funny. We got to prove each other wrong and probably embarrass the other teams. However it was a good time.

My favorite part of this year was when we did the court case with the story “Spunk”. I really enjoyed finding evidence on who was the murder of Joe. My favorite part of this year was when we read the book "A Day No Pigs Would Die". I enjoyed when we did the projects for the book. It was fun working with friends and thinking about the things that we would put on the poster. It was also cool to find out facts from our poster and other people's posters too. It was also really fun to go up and present it in class.

My favorite part of reading class this year is when we had to write the songs. It was really fun listing to all the other songs and it was really funny. Also it was fun trying to come up with a song that we could rewrite in the same beat. My favorite song that my group did is Old Mcdonald when we had to sing about the characters and events in shakespear. It was really fun and I wouldn't mind doing it again.

rpollock2 said...

My favorite part of reading class this year was when we read the book "A Day no Pigs would die" and make a poster. I really liked drawing, decorating and writing stuffs on the poster. I was in a same group with Lina, and she helped me a lot. Also I liked the mini projects we did every 9 weeks. To do this project I think I read more than I usually read.

hkim1 said...

@rpollock2 That was fun too.

My favorite part of this year was yesterday when Ms.Thomas put me, Emily, Kevin and Caleb in the same acting group. It was very funny listening to Emily and Kevin get mad about being in the same group. Thank you for that again, I can't wait for us to act it out. Also thank you for only giving me 4 lines, I really like it. I will miss being in your class.

gdummett1 said...

My favorite part of the school year in reading class was reading A Day No Pigs would Die. The book was very funny especially when the pig came around. But the book got very sad towards the ending and left some feels and makes me want to read the next book in the series. I liked all the projects we did on the book with the fair drawing and the posters of a specific group. The saddest parts where when they killed the pig and the father died.

gdummett1 said...

@DSanchez5 That is exactly what i chose for my favorite thing.

gdummett1 said...

@ecastillo2 I liked that part to, I was one of the judges and the court was definitely not in order.

My favorite part of this Reading class is doing the Shakespeare Roast Battle because it was fun trying to pronounce the language. The battle was interesting because we had to speak in Shakespearean language and the insults didn't make sense to us. Another cool thing is that Antonio and I won the extra credit points and I feel that we did a good job at insulting each other. this was my favorite part of this class that I remember and if we could have another battle I would because it was entertaining to do and to watch others roast.

Mcline1 said...

My favorite part of this reading class is when we did the Shakespeare Insult Battle because it allowed me to say things that have been on my mind in a nice environment. The language was a little hard and it allowed to learn some of the Shakespearean language. It was nice to put ourselves in the stories. It made me learn that even Shakespeare has a sense of humor. It also made me think that Shakespeare is hilarious.

Mcline1 said...

I agree completely GKloeppel5.

My favorite part about reading this year was the Socratic seminars. I think it is interesting to hear everyone's opinion on different things. I also enjoyed these because they were not hard at all. It was pretty much all on us to come up with different topics of what to talk about. Overall they were interesting and made class go by fast.

ilschleissing4 said...

I think Mr. Kovacs did a good job as well DBecker4.

ilschleissing4 said...

The debates were fun as well LBaker4.

DDaniels4 said...

My favorite part of reading class, this year was when we had to performed in front of the class. It was a fun thing to do and watch because everyone would have their unique own performance. And their was funny plot twist when that silent person in class would have an amazing sing voice, which had you shocked because you weren't expecting that. lastly the performances we had to do in reading class, made the class more lively instead of boring that made you hate that class forever.

ZGano5 said...

My favorite part about reading class this year would have to be the Socratic Seminars. Our class is hands down the most oppinionated which made the Seminars so fun. We could argue in a controlled environment. It was also very interesting to hear everyones diffrent opinions on everything we discussed. Really hearing each other out. The Socratic Seminars were easy and way better then the standardized tests.

ZGano5 said...

GKloeppel5
You were hilarious to watch!!

amjohnston1 said...

My favorite part of the class this year was reading, watching, and acting out a midsummer night's dream. This was my favorite part because it was entertaining and not boring. Watching it was probably the best out of the three because it shows you what went on in the script instead of reading it. Watching the movie gave you the real picture of the story. The movie also helped with learning Titania's speech.

My favorite part of Mrs. Thomas reading class was the socrative seminars. This was my favorite part of the year because you could agree, or disagree on other people thoughts and their ideas. The other reason why I thought this was great was because everyone had a different point of view of the question or statement that were implied. My other favorite part of the year was the play map song because the people in my group made jokes and rapper names while we were practicing our song. Another reason why this was my favorite was because everyone in my group put their own little twist the song.

efreeman5 said...

I had many fun moment through out the school year in reading. My all time favorite part of the year was when we did the insult battle. It was my favorite because it was fun to me. It was fun because we were able to roast friends using Shakespeare insults, which were very good and funny insults. This is my favorite part of the year in the reading and why it is my favorite.

My favorite part of Reading this year was the Shakespeare insults. They were fun to translate with our friends. Deandre and Tyler were so Hilarious at it. It was so funny. I also liked the days when we didn't do anything like when we had FSA testing. it was also fun in the class when we had the socratic seminars. The Things I found Fun about the socratic seminars was when we would start arguing with each other.

cpreston2 said...

My favorite moment from reading class this year was rather recent, it was the, "Shakespearean insult battle." I liked it because some people were really into it and I like it when people can really role-play well. Also I found it funny when people were awkwardly trying to do this and failing miserably. However there were many other good moments, and I really think that the play reading will be fun this week.

cpreston2 said...

@Ryassin4

There are a lot of fun things that have been done in this class this year. It's hard to pick what the funnest thing was. But I really enjoyed the socratic seminars. They were really funny how we would ask what was our favorite part of the story and get to things like how someone woke up. They were also just a day that we could just talk about how other people were wrong and some times people had really good points and made everyone go "ooohhh!"

My favorite part, or moment of Reading Class this year would have to be when we read "A Day No Pigs Would Die" because we did activities and worksheets on it. Also I enjoyed reading that book because I really understood what was happening. Another favorite moment of mine this year, was when we wrote and sang our protest songs. It was fun, because I got to work with my friends and actually make a song of my own. This year in reading class, has really been an experience and also a memory for me. I hope the next class will love it as much as i did.

My favorite part of your class would probably be the Socratic seminar or the mini projects. I liked the Socratic seminars because you could voice your opinion and disagree with the opinions you didn’t agree with. I know I am probably the only one who liked the mini projects but I thought they were fun and pretty easy. I liked them because we didn’t have to write any 3-page essay on the book you got to be creative with it. I personally liked the 5 objects in a bag, it was fun looking for items around the house to match parts or characters in the book.

My all time favorite will always be meeting everybody. The reason that it will is because everybody was really cool and funny and I was always laughing in that class. We've had some pretty slow moments in that class and you guys taught me a lot. My other favorite would be Mrs.Thomas always doing that sarcastic smile that she does. I'm going to miss that! My last favorite would have to be doing blogs. Although most of my classmates dreaded doing them with all their little hearts it was fun to me. It was fun to me because I talk a lot and it allowed me to free write about whatever the topic was.

My favorite part of this year was watching that football movie that took place in the segregation period. Even though I'm not a big fan of football, this movie opens your eyes to much deeper things then football. It shows the struggle between black people and white people getting along. Some white people didn't care what color you where and most of them took some time getting use to different colored people. But at the end of the movie it shows us we are all family no matter how different we look. This movie also gave us time to relax from our work and I think you should show this next year because it is a great source to open our eyes to segregation.

I don't really have a favorite part of reading class but if I had to choose it would be when we read "38". I liked the story because it wasn't a boring fiction story like we always read. It also showed us how the bystander effect is present in our everyday lives and making us realize that its good to help people. Another reason why I liked this story was because it was real and we got to learn weird facts about what happened. Thats what I liked this year.

This year has been the worst out of 6th grade and 7th grade, but I would have to say my favorite part of Reading Class is the plays. Since I'll be going to a school that doesn't have an acting club, this Shakespeare play will be my last play until I get into the Hippodrome next year! Acting is my favorite thing to do, so since we did plays in this class, that would be my favorite thing. One thing I would suggest when assigning roles is to tell them to practice acting as their favorite movie or show character, that way students can get used to acting in certain emotions. But, all in all, the plays were my favorite things to do this year.

My favorite part of the year was when we did independent reading. It was very peaceful. We should IR every day. It also gives people time to read their mini project books. This is very important, as we might not have time to read while we are at home because of reasons. (Reason Reasons.)

ISwarts4
The Play is very enjoyable, I agree.

Mr. Kovacs was pretty cool.

My favorite part of this year's class would be when we reenacted the fight in class. This was my favorite part because we got to express our thoughts and opinions to the class and the teacher in an organized fashion without all the yelling. Also it was just a fun topic to converse about with the other students. It was nice to take off working for acting. This was definitely the best point of the year.

We had some really good and funny times in 6th period this year, especially when we still had Mr Kovacks teaching us. I feel like I got to know more people in my age group better, and that helped expand whatever small circle of friends/acquaintances I had. I never really had any problems with people in this class either, so I could pretty much work with anyone and still get along. Overall it was a really chill experience and a good change from my last two years in middle school, because I got to laugh with people that I hardly even knew. Like a cheesy 90's movie about the lame kid who everybody slowly learns is cool, except a lot less showy.

My favorite part of this year was reading Shakespeare. I think it has been fun learning more about him and what he wrote. I especially liked Titanias speech because it was fun to memorize. But it was way more fun to act out the skits. Hope we learn more about him next year in highschool.

@cnelson2 Good job!
@chodges6 Me too!

My favorite part of the year was probably when we learned about the Harlem Renaissance. This was my favorite because we read all of those poems from people that I had never even heard of before. I felt like there is still so much that we didn't learn though. The main person that caught my attention was Langston Hughes. Before learning about the Harlem Renaissance, I had never heard his name.

@dnazario2
I agree with you totally.

@shernandez6
That part was fun too.

My favorite part of reading class this year was shakespear. It was my favorite because my mom was always into shakespear. I love reading it because its cool to see how people talked back then. It seems strange that they talked like that all the time and it was natural to them just as it is to us now. I wonder how it would've been if we talk like that now and if they tralked like we do back then.

jsmith1 said...

@mbowman4 I enjoyed learning about that in my chorus and history class.

jsmith1 said...

@dtthomas1 I loved that book.

The favorite part of this reading class this year was the Socratic seminars. And our class discussions and Mr. kovacs teaching the class. but most our activities Mrs. Thomas is the coolest reading teacher you could ever get. If anyone else is reading my blog from A lower grade most likely try to get in Mrs. Thomas class its the best and funnest class you could ever get in 8th grade.

Learning about Shakespeare was a good unit in reading class to i agree.

I agree with everyone with Mr. Kovacs was teaching.

I think my favorite part has to be what we are doing now. I've always loved acting, and the acting groups you get to do that. I like getting up and preforming. So when we recite Titania's speech, that's what I like to do. I also really just love reading and reading class. Thank you Mrs. Thomas for an awesome year!!

cmitchell1 said...

@daproctor, I agree that Mrs. Thomas was the coolest reading teacher!!

i think my favorite part of the year or the time that i have been here would have been the court case or independent reading. I liked the court case because people really discussed who they thought was innocent or guilty and of course people had conflict. There was also people yelling and debating like an actual court case. The reason why i like independent reading is because it gave me time to read the book i was really interested in. It was also very quiet and i could really focus. Thank you Mrs. Thomas for giving me a great experience.

i lik doing the acting we are doing now. I got a great group and we all like are parts. I also loved the IR, it was fun and relaxing. Plus the random class conversations we have in class is extremely funny to listen to. Mrs Thomas is by far the best reading teacher I have ever had.

Ajoseph5 and ddaniels4 I agree very much.

My favorite part of reading class was watching Remember the Titans. The movie was good with a diverse and great group of actors. It featured a lot of good points and things you would probably imagine that went on in that time period. It showed people back then what would be like if we all came together and formed as one great team. So, throughout the whole years, that was a favorite thing.

kkimbrough1 said...

bbachman4 that was a good part in the year too.

My favorite part of reading class was getting to choose my own books. The last two books I read taught me a lot about vanishing wildlife. I hadn't really thought about how theme parks, hotels, and restaurants are changing Florida. Being able to read these books created a new passion for me that I am going to explore high school. My family and I are also going to take more trips to natural places likes parks and the beach. I am glad I found this reading class made me think a lot more about it.

Chon5 said...

@Dgivens2 I really liked that too.

@Aberryman5 I like that too because my acting group is great.

My favorite part of reading class this year was would probably be when Mr. Kovacs came and made us write those poems. The reason I say this, is because I love to write poems. Also I was able to understand a little about my classmates when they read their poems. I find that his exercise was work but it was also a way for us to get to know each other a little better. I think that his method was pretty cool, although most kids hated it. I love it.

My favorite part of this year is when we read A Day No Pigs Would Die. I personally really enjoyed the book. Learning about the Shakers way of life was really interesting. Also it was sad when they had to kill the pig because she did not produce any piglets. I also really liked the projects that we did with it and working with our groups. There were a lot of enjoyable parts of this year but this was my favorite.

nmccleese1 said...

@chon5, giving us a choice in our own books was a nice change in the years of school, so I agree.

@jsmaith1, what we are doing now is a lot of fun, so I see why you enjoy it.

My favorite part of my reading class was doing Socratic seminars because I like to debate with the other students about the story. I liked how we had to question other students about the story. I also liked to add on to another person thought about the story and give them advice. I also liked when we had to defend a character innocent or guilty because it was fun!

The best part about reading in this class was the friendships I made and my growth in reading. We’ve did some fun things in here this year. Like plays, movies, scripts and so forth. I really enjoyed when we were able to interact with other classmates. Being in groups with people your actually comfortable with plays a big role in how you function in a class.

aafleming2 said...

Zberroa1 i agree Socratic seminars were fun as well.

Snolen6 A day no pigs would die was one of my favorite books in here too.

The best part of the year was when we read a Day No Pigs Would Die and the pig died. Because it was a fun book to read and the entire thing was dramatized over this one pig getting raped and then killed at the very end. I rate this reading class 5 Stars.
I also very much enjoyed being a lawyer for spunk and yelling at joe's defense team. I apologize for the headaches.

zbergman4 said...

@mmsmith2 i also very much enjoyed the Socratic seminar

zsbergman said...

ooh yes @ale2 that was also a key essential to fun in this class

jhardy5 said...

My favorite part of class this year was when we had a court session on the story "Spunk". It was fun because we could speak aggressively and we could use energy in the 2 cases. It was very realistic and enthusiastic. Every one was involved and statements were thrown everywhere. I had so much fun debating over the story. It was so real.

jhardy5 said...

@zsbergman
I liked that book too.

@mcleese
Mr . Kovacs was great too.

My favorite part of reading class actually happened recently when we got to roast each other using lines from A Midsummer Night's Dream. Gabe and me roasted each other. It was so funny and the lines were so hard to say. A clear winner wasn't determined but to be honest I think I won. I think i'm master at roasting Shakespeare style.

ACardoza5 said...

@jhardy5 That debate was fun!

@zsbergman I forgot about that book. That book was really good.

My favorite part of Ms.A Thomas 2nd period 8th grade reading class was when got to be judges to determine who killed spunk. This year reading class was fun. You made learning actually fun just like Ms.Mertens. When I leave your class on June 9th for the last time I will remember all the great times 2nd period had.I enjoyed being in your class this school year.
