Blog #7 Due: Monday 10/18/10

We just learned about abstract nouns and how they help you determine the theme in a text. For this week's blog entry, tell us one of the themes of your independent reading book and then turn it into a theme statement. If you need help, use the graphic organizer we used to analyze the theme of the video clips from, "My So Called Life."  You can also ask yourself "What did I(or the character) learn?"
Remember to tell us what book you are reading, the author, and what page you are currently on!

I am currently reading a Nancy Drew book called Secret of the Shadow Ranch. The author is Carolyn Keene. I am on page 123. The abstract nouns are mysterious, exciting, and suspenseful. I learned that you have to go to great lengths to do what you love. This means Nancy has to work hard to be a detective.

I am reading The Girls by Lori Lansens and I am currently on page 202. One of the themes that the author includes in this book is to love your sibling(s) now because you never know when they will be gone. Basically, the author is saying live like you're dying event though the main characters in the book really are dying. I learned that you should do everything you want to do in your life time because if you don't do it now then you may never get the chance to. Live your life like you don't have more than today to live it.

The name of my book is Renmants:Breakdown. The Author is K.A.Applegate. Some abstract nouns are crazy, freaky, and unhuman. The theme statement would be don't give in. I learned that if you give in to evil bad thing will happen, and maybe even death.

The book that i am reading is called Found. This book is by a woman named Margaret Peterson Haddix. The theme in this book would be, no one is perfect because if the characters in this book were perfect then they wouldn’t have to go through all of the stuff that they are going through, like trying to figure put where they came from and who they really are and if they are from the future. This book is very mysterious and it also teaches you not to open letters that don’t have return addresses on them and that don’t have your actual address on them because if the people don’t know your actual address then they shouldn’t be sending you anything in the mail.

I am now reading Someone to Love by Anne Schraff and on page 54; it's a really good book so far. One of the themes is "When you do a good deed, you will get rewarded in the end." I learned this because the main character Cindy's best friend Jamee was in an abusive relationship and it ended with her being harmed by her ex-boyfriend Bobby Wallace. Now that Bobby Wallace is the only boy that has shown Cindy interest(that she's noticed), she has starting to hang around him and go on dates with him even though her friends are warning her and trying to keep her from going down the same road as her best friend Jamee. Cindy doesn’t want to listen and with her mom being tied up with work and her boyfriend Raffie, Cindy's trying to occupy her time with Bobby.

One day when the father found out were the money was, he took it and went out and used the money to get drunk. When he was out his wife and little girl he left them home. The wife was almost ready to give birth to a child, and she really needed him by her side really bad. she became sick, cold, and hungry and she died that same one night. When her husband came home that they the little girl told her dad that she will never be able to forgive him for what he had done.

The theme of book would be never to give up because in the book tiger woods goes through some things like his dad having bypass surgery and him not being able to play at a certain course because of his race. I mean through all of this he still stayed strong and was able to win masters in a PGA tour ,just in first year.Usually when something likes this happens to one of us we get depressed or angry with the world and say it was our fault that this happened but tiger sat and he thought and he came back a beat every single golfer on the course he stayed strong and got what he wanted just from not giving up,and this is why i think the theme of my book is to never ever give up.
AUTHOR:BILL GUTMAN
BOOK TITLE:TIGER WOODS:A BIOGRAPHY
PAG#:I AM DONE WITH THE BOOK
