For this week's blog entry, tell us one of the themes of your independent reading book and then turn it into a theme statement.

The book that I’m reading is “Scarlet” by Marissa Meyer. I am on page 547. One theme in my book is that you can run, but you can’t always hide. In my book, the main character Cinder is running from the law with Thorne. They have managed to not get caught so far, but they almost did. So they will need to be more careful to escape the lunar queen.
i am reading The Mark of Athena, by Rick Riordan, and i am on page 123. i think that the abstract noun would be courage, especially with Percy, Percy has to be extremely courageous when dealing with Annabeth and how he has to get out of tarterous if he wants to save the people he loves.

I am reading the Stone Child by Dan Poblocki. I am on page 17. The Abstract noun would be curiosity because Eddie moves to a new town, and the new town is very unusual and weird things start to happen.
Right now im reading 39 clues the maze of bones im on pg 5. I just stared this real instering the theme of this book is these kids trying to figure out a murder seen from what i read. It starts off real good by telling what this book is about and the cover of the book tells you alot to. I Think i will enjoy reading this book.

The book I am currently reading no is called “Rebel Spirits ” the author is “Louis Ruby”. I am currently on page 4. The theme so far In this book is about “Lori” and her family moving to GettyBurge. So far in the book Lori is very mad that they are moving and she gets a little attitude and gets reminded by her father that she is only sixteen years old. So far I have learned that she does think that she is very sassy and gets a little carried away from the tone of voice. So far from what I have read during this book I think I really enjoy it.

I am reading The Vampire Stalker, by Allison Van Diepen on page 7. I have just started reading this book and it is very good so far. The main character in the story is Amy, who loves to read. Amy falls in love with a book character who's name is Alexander Banks. He then becomes real and Amy helps him track down Vigo,so lifes won't be at risk. So, the theme of the story is love can find you anywhere.
The book I am reading is Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol. I am on page 178. The theme of the book so far is discovery and confusion. Alice has found herself in a magical world full of talking animals and odd people of who she can’t quite figure out she in unaware of her surroundings and always seems to learn a lesson (or what could pass as a lesson in Wonderland) when she meets someone. The Hatter teaches her not to fret about the time, The smoking caterpillar teaches her to go with what is happening around you instead of changing it, the Duchess tells her not to stick her nose where it doesn’t belong ( to name a couple).

Reading he book the main character Steve learned that no matter how the world looks its the job of the people that live in it now, to shape it for the future. Steve would always try to run from his problems but the would end up coming back at him. Right now i am on the last chapter.

My book is Rapunzel by Wendy mass, the theme of my book is keep your loved ones close but your
enemies closer. In the begging chapter its Rapunzel’s 12 birthday, and it was the day she was finally
going to get a haircut. Her who loved her so much made a deal with a witch before Rapunzel was even
born. They didn’t say what the deal was but he made the deal because they didn’t have any food to eat
during the months Rapunzel’s mom was pregnant. Her father didn’t think that the witch remembered,
but she. The day she came was on Rapunzel’s birthday and her father or mother couldn’t do anything to
stop the witch. She had taken Rapunzel.
The book that I am currently reading is “Stealing Home” the author of my book is Barry Denenberg, I am on page 22 of 155 pages. I believe that the theme of the book “Stealing Home” is about how much the author loves baseball in general and also Jackie Robinson. It shows how much he knows about the game and the players that play now and also about the players that played back then. Also, in the author’s bio it tells you that he played baseball for a very long time and that is what encouraged him to write about his role model Jackie Robinson and the game that he so dearly loves baseball. If I had to think of the theme statement for the book it would have to be, chase your dreams because if want something so bad that you couldn’t stand it then of course you would do whatever it takes to get that one thing. And I can relate to the author because him and I really lie baseball and I am chasing my dreams to play in the MLB.
I currently started a new book (Kingdom Keepers IV and I am on page 60) and I really don’t have a theme figured out yet so I will do my other book instead. My other book was Kingdom Keepers I by Ridley Pearson. I thought the theme for the book was that responsibility can be hard to keep hold of but when you have duties or jobs or tasks, you need to try your hardest to be most successful. The abstract noun would be responsibility. For example, the kingdom keepers have many responsibilities to save Disney World from being overtaken by the overtakers. They must do they’re duties to save Disney World and help Wayne before it’s too late. They have to work hard to complete this task making the theme and abstract noun responsibility. It teaches readers that even though the book is fantasy and nothing in the book we could do, it’s important that you work at your hardest and highest potential.

My book is "The Summer I Turned Pretty" by Jenny Han and im on page 60. The theme of the book is "everything happens for a reason". Bella finds out that things are supposed to happen because she goes through struggles like her parents divorce, dating, and more. She doesnt know what to do, but in the end, she realizes it was supposed to happen. Its the bad times that help her out, because each day things get better.

I'm currently reading The Lightening Theif by Rick Riordan and I'm on page 107, but I'm not far enough into the book to know the theme. The last book I read was The Reptile Room by Lemony Snicket. One theme of that book was to always believe and trust your family. In the story the three children had to figure things out and do many sneaky things. They had to trust each other that some of the crazy things that they found out were all true and believe that each of them could do the risky things they had to do.

I am currently reading Game Over by James Patterson and I am on page 74. In my opinion the theme of this book so far is everyone needs help sometimes. Since I am not even half way through with this book I have found the theme for the entire book yet I think that this is the theme of this book because it has been mentioned multiple times throughout the book. While I was reading the book I saw that the main character Daniel X has helped people and has been helped by the same people who he helped in the first place. Since Daniel X is considered a superhero on multiple planets no one would think he ever needs help but in the book it shows sometimes he does. So far I enjoy this book but I cannot relate to it in anyway.
My book is Gold by Chris Cleave. I’m currently on page 13. Since I’m not that far into the book I can only say what is currently happening and that is Kate meadows wanting to go back to the Olympics and go for the gold but there’s one thing stopping her and that is her sick daughter Sophie is battling a reoccurring case of leukemia. The theme I’m guessing is living life to its fullest. Since Kate’s daughter is sick, she doesn’t want to abandon her dreams but wants to do what’s right for Sophie.

In my book "THE DANGROUS DAYS OF DANIEL X" the theme so far is, Daniel is consatnly on the move. When he was three years old his parents were killed by an evil alien named number six. Daniel is is now 15 and hunts aliens before they kill everyone. he is currently after number six and has killed number 19. i am reding THE DANGROUS DAYS OF DANIEL X I AM ON PAGE 50 AND IT WAS MADE BY JAMES Patterson
I am currently reading Erec Rex the Dragon’s eye, the author is Kaza Kingsley, and I am currently on page 6. This book takes place in New York and seems to take place between about 1995-2006. It seems to try to teach you that you should help family if lost or something in that sort. Maby that helping the one that feeds/takes care of you.

The book I am currently reading is called "Philippa Fisher's Fairy godsister" by Liz Kessler. I'm on page 9. The theme of my book so far is Philippa is making a friendship bracelet for her best friend Charlotte because Charlotte is moving away. The message the author is trying to tell the reader so far is that no matter what happens everything will be okay at the end.

The book i am reading is the race for the gold. The author is Jhon Feinstein and i am on page 27. The theme of my book is that you shouldnt just do something with a good outcome before thinking what will happen to your self. in this book sh egets offered many contracts and turns most of them down. the theme sentence i think is good is slow and steady wins the race.

I just finished the book Sound Bender by Lin Oliver and Theo Baker. There were 262 pages total. There were very many themes in the book. I think that the most noticeable theme in the book is growth. My theme statement would be “Challenges might get in the way, but it will help you grow.” I saw that Leo was just a young boy who had just gone through a tragic experience. His parents died, but it led to him growing up and taking care of him. Then he moved in with his uncle who he barely knew. When this happened, he had to be accepting of his uncle who was just trying to help.

My book is Hatchet by Gary Paulsen and I am on page 21. So far the main character, Brian, has expressed a lot of sadness because his parents are getting divorced. He is very upset which resembles the theme “Actions of others can affect your life.” This divorce was not decided by Dylan, neither did he like the idea but it has defiantly affected him throughout the book so far. This theme defiantly backs up how Brian has reacted to his parents’ divorce so far in the book.

I am currently reading “Clone Codes “by The Mckissacks. I am on page 21.The theme that I would choose for my book so far is “think before you do anything”. I chose that because in my book the main character Leanna and some students escape from their program because, they were being treated like slaves and wanted to find freedom .They find other people, but some wants to go back. Then they meet Harriet Tubman and she tells them that they can’t go back.

I am reading a book named 'The Hobbit' by J.R.R.Tolkien. I'm on page 40. And I think, the abstract noun is comfort. Because Bilbo lives in the hole which is not very dirty or smelly but very comfotable place, also the dwarves come to Bilbo's hole, and they don't even feel awkward.

I think that a good theme for my book, The School for Good and Evil, by Soman Chainani (page 127 out of 488), would be ‘friendship’ and that a good way to make it into a theme statement would be ‘anyone can be friends, no matter how different they are’ because the two main characters are almost polar opposites, but they are friends anyway.

I am reading The Dangerous Days of Dainel X by James Patterson, on page 59. The theme of this book, is never be alone. Daniel's freinds were built by him. The only real people he hangs out with is his family that adopted him. He seems to be really focused on alien hunting. I think he needs to hang out with real peopleand have a life.

I am reading “If I Tell” by Janet Gurtler and I am on page 29. Jasmine and her family have all been holding back secrets from each other and so the book is based around secrets. The secrets show that “Secrets can ruin relationships.” What Jasmine had witnessed changed her perspective on how she looks at her mother’s boyfriend. Since she can’t tell anybody what Simon did that makes her even more upset.

I just finished reading the book Brand-New Emily by Ginger Rue. In this book, this girl Emily is unpopular and always get picked on by her classmates. So one day this very popular girl teased her about her dead mom, so she got in a fight and got suspended for a week. In that week, her dad too her to New York. IN New York she went to Noreen and asked her to help her to help her become popular. After a couple of weeks she was very popular at her school. She was also starting to be mean. At the end Emily leaned that being popular isn't important, being nice is. So she changed herself and choose the right path.

My main character Belly wants to keep obsessing over a boy she met last summer at the beach,but her best friend Taylor wants her to move on from him. So Belly is trying her best to but for some reason she can't.

I am currently reading Titanic the Last Night of a Small Town, by John Welshman, and I am on page 22. The section I am reading so far is about who started to think of the Titanic and build its foundation, and all of the facts about. The theme of this section isn’t very obvious, I think that it would be “every little detail is important” or “don’t be too confidant in your plan.” Every little detail in building something “out of the box” is important especially something that is carrying so many people. Lastly, it talks about how many people it took to build this, so another theme could be, “numbers don’t mean anything”. This means that it doesn’t matter how many people it took, it matters how long it takes to make a safe and sturdy ship, or anything.

The book I’m reading is One for the Murphys by Lynda Mullaly Hunt, I’m on page 140. The abstract noun I would pick the feeling of being torn between sides. Like Carley is torn between choosing her real mother who betrayed her and her foster family who she says are too good for her, but she begins to get closer to the Murphys her foster family and gets very close with them. I am really enjoying this book.

I am reading the book, “The Lord of the Rings the Fellowship of the Ring,’’ written by J.R.R. Tolkien. I am on page 87. One theme in my book is team work. In the book, the several Hobbits have to work together in order to survive and help protect one another. The main character,Frodo, is aided by his fellow Hobbit friends and the rest of the Fellowship. They will have to all work together if they all want to survive and stop the main antagonist,Sauron.

My book is called Uglies by Scott Westerfeld and I am on page 31. So far i think the best abstract noun is friendship. Tally and Peris were best friends until Peris became a pretty causing Tally to sneak out of Ugly Town to find him. The only reason Tally sneaks out is to make sure that Peris is still her bestfriend. Friendship between Tally and Peris is strained but that doesnt matter for now.

I’m reading a book called the Trublewisters. I am currently on page 64. For this book I would have to say that theme is to putting the pieces together. I think that, that is the theme because in this book there are so many unanswered questions. They were forced to live with grandma in an unknown city for unknown but dangerous reason.

I am reading a book called Scat. I am currently on page 57. I am saying the theme of this book is when the teacher has gone missing. This teacher is the most feared biology teacher. That is what I think the theme of my book is.
I am currently reading The Stand by Stephen King. I am on page 997. This book is about a super virus that has been released from a biochemical lab due to a nanosecond of computer error that caused malfunctions that allowed the virus to escape. This virus wipes out 99% of all of life on Earth. The main theme of this book is survival. The remaining 1% of people on earth have to survive sickness, create a system of law, make currency and repopulate the earth. However,the surviving 1% of the population will break up into two factions, good and evil. These factions will fight to the bitter end. The characters attempt to survive in the “New World”; they will survive or die trying.

Dylan, your post is interesting because the book that I am reading, The Stand, is also about an apocalyptic event that obliterates most of the population and causes a struggle for survival.
Good post Ehouston. I think that you choose the right noun for the overall story, It matches Percy's personality perfectly.
I am reading, “Daniel X: Watch the Skies”, by James Patterson and Ned Rust, and am on page 74. The theme of my book would have to be to never give up. In my book, the main character, Daniel, is alien hunting for the toughest aliens on planet Earth. His parents, who were former alien hunters, were killed, making him the only alien hunter of his species. The thing is, he also an alien. He has the power of imagination. Eventually making it to the toughest of aliens, Daniel has to stop the aliens from killing off the human race. This is a basic concept of the “underdog”. He is the only alien hunter, who can “imagine” other alien hunters, to kill off the aliens. In the first book of this series his encounter with, “Number 6”, were almost impossible for him to survive. He should’ve given up with all the conflicts saying he wouldn’t kill Number 6. Now, he has to kill Number 5 which is an even more difficult alien to defeat. He could chose to give up, however just like in the last book, he isn’t. No matter how tough Number 5 is, he isn’t backing down yet.

My book is "unwind" by: Neal Shusterman. I'm currently on page 108. So far, there have been unwinds, or people sent off to be killed for their body parts for others in surgeries, escape and survive critical conditions. To me, the theme so far is "How far would you go to survive?"

The book i am currently reading is The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. I am on page 14 of 374. One theme in my book is that you can't always get what you want. In the book, Katniss has to put her name in the reeping about 14 times for her family, and her age. Although she doesn't want it to be, is has to.

The book i am currently reading is Daniel X by James Patterson. i think the theme is that determination and bravery is a huge part in this book. i think that because Daniel is brave to fight off alot of villians and is determined to beat them. i think this author really loves action based themes.

I'm reading swindle and on page.62 Chapter 4. I think that the theme of my book is probably that anything is possible. I think that because it tells you how to sneak out and if you get caught lying there's other ways to get out of it.
I am reading The Limit written by Kristen Landon. And I am on page 9. I am not quite sure what the theme of this book is but I think it has to do with freedom. Because the main character is forced to work in a sweat shop and has to try to escape.

The book I am currently reading is Dork Diaries a Tales of a Not So Popular Pop star, and I am on page 69. The Theme of the book so far is how Mackenzie is bullying Rachel and trying to steal her friends from her. What I think the theme statement of the book will be at the end is how Rachel gets through the bullying and becomes acquaintances with Mackenzie at least.What I've learned so far from this book is to not bully or be mean to other people.

The book I am reading is The Roar by Emma Clayton, I am on page 50. I just started the book so I don't have many examples of the theme of the book yet, but one of the main characters Ellie escapes from the man who kidnapped her and held her hostage for years. The theme of this is that their are evil people in this world and they do evil things. Ellie learns that she has the power and intelligence to evade her enemy.

The book i am currently reading is The Cronicals of Narnia The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis. i am on page 78. The main charecter(s)Their are five, but i belive the true main charecter is lucy (the youngest). she is the first one to find the wardrobe and ofcorse narnia. A detail the book gives me on theme is expect the unexpected,because of narnia and talking bevers and the white witch, etc.
