Blog #7 Due: Monday 3/14/11

We have been focusing on poetry and trying to figure out what the author is trying to say through his or her writing. Tell us what you think the Theme of your book is. Remember: Theme is the point the author is trying to get across to the reader.

Remember to include your books title, author, and current page number you are on. Your response must include what you think the Theme of your book is and an example from the book that clues you in to that theme. Your response must be 5-7 sentences.

167 comments:

  1. I am reading Harriet the Spy. the author is Louise Fitzhugh. I am on page 134. The theme of my book is No matter how hard life gets hold on and everythikng will be better. For example Harriet's nanny left and she thinks it the end of the world. But, it hasn't stopped Harriet from moving foward. No matter where life takes her.

  2. The book I was reading is I Am Number Four By Pittacus Lore and I finished the book. I think the Theme of this book is life is hard but you should keep trying. In the book the main character John Smith has to move around a lot because he is from a different world. Even though he has to switch homes he still tries to have a normal life by going to school. In the end he thinks that moving to Ohio was the best thing that has ever happend to him.

  3. aadusiaw3,
    That book sounds cool.

  4. I am reading Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson. I am currently on page 54. The theme of my book is that even if your not related to someone they can still be considered your "family." For example, the main characters in my story are not related by blood, except for two of them, but they consider themselves family. The oldest, Max, takes care of them. When the youngest, Angel, gets kidnapped she makes it her misson to rescue her.

  7. aadusiaw3,
Was Harriet really close to her Nanny?

  8. The name of my book is Deeper by Brian Williams. I am on page 189. I believe the theme of my book is don't let your fears get in the way of your goal. Because it will only temporarily stop you from completing it. One example would be when Will thinks about trying out for a sports team, but is overwhelmed by all of the pressure and doesn't tryout. Later on he regrets not trying out because the same team won the state championship, and he knew he could have been apart of their triumph.

  11. My book is "The Red Pyramid"by Rick Riordan. I think the theme from my book is partnership. I think this because through partnership you may have some that you do not like as a partner, but in the book Carter and his sister are partners and they hate each other. Even through hate they learn to like each other (not in a weird way), which make them work good together. In life it is important to work good together even in the toughest situation.

  14. eigth grade bites by heather brewer and on page 148 . Its hard to find a lesson. I would say dont stop trying and dont be shy. Hold your ground no matter how big of a problem. Think before you act. I think those are the life lessons because he always holds his ground even after two bullies 3 times his size beating him up. He still fights back. And dont be shy because if he wasnt he would of met the girl he really likes already by now.

  16. I am reading The secret Language of Girls by France O'Roork Dowell. I am on page 124. I think the theme in this book is know matter what your friends do to you keep going with your life. I think that because Kate and Flannery were Marylin's best friends and now they dont talk to Marylin. One day Kate and Flannery just decited to not talk to Marylin when she got on the bus. They didnt want anything to do with here.

  20. The book I am reading is Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. I am on page 52. I think the theme of this book is that love comes in all forms and in all people. For example the Cuplet's and the Montague's have been enemies many years. What were the odds that the two youngest from each of the families would fall in love? I have not finished the book yet but we all know the ending, so I guess another theme could be things don't always have a happy ending.

  21. Maximum Ride---The Angel Experiment
    By:James Patterson----.----.----.--
    Pg:75:///:////:///:////:

I think the theme of my poem is you don't have to be blood related to be a family. The main Character Max is 99% human and 1% bird. The Angel experiments aren't suppose to live past 6 years old, but all of them have. Now Max takes care of her family and to her they are her family. She will always protect them. In the book Its says that "No Matter what people say their my family."

  24. The book I am currently reading is called Princess Diaries. I am just now starting and I am on page 13. The author is Meg Cabot. I believe the theme of my book is that family is important and your identity can ALWAYS surprise you. An example of the theme is that when Mia finds out that she is the Princess of Genovia she is surprised and doesnt believe it. She though her grandmother was mistaken.

I think that's a good book to be reading if the goal is to not let your fears get in the way of achieving your goal. Is Deeper motivating?

  29. I want to say the theme of my book would probably be: always expect the unexpected.I say this because in the first book of the series this boy and his little sister are washing clthes in the apartment laundry room. As the little girl,boots(1yrs. old),dropped a ball it went into a grate in the wall and as she bent down to get it her brother,Gregor, realized she was falling in.As he grabbed her they both fell into the grate and began falling thousands of feet bellow the earth. This is why I believe the theme of my book is always expect the unexpected .In other words be ironic or expect irony.

  32. The title of the book I am reading now is About Her written by a Japanese named Yosamoto Banana. I am on page 78. The theme of the book, I believe, is that this world is worth to live in. I guess the theme by some sentences in the book: "I am a human being who was a dream of my father and mother. I, being alive, am somebody's dream which has come true."

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am currently reading a book called, Gone. The author of the book is Michael Grant. I am on page 200. The theme of my book is expect the unexpected. For example, everybody thought that they where going to have a normal day. But, in the middle of class poof the teachers and adults where gone. Nobody ever expected them to poof away.

    ReplyDelete
  34. gfleck3,

  37. The book i am curently reading is How I Nickey Flynn Got A life And A Dog.I just got done with the book. The author is Art Corriveau.
The theme of my is try as hard as you can.The reason i think that is nickey tries as hard he can to get to his dad.

  42. The book i am reading is Harry potter and the Half Blood prince i think the theme of this story is the importance of friend ship. i feel its that way beacuse harry and every one go through alot of stuff. i think if it werent for his friends harry could possibly be dead by now.If harry was to die i think that all the other wizzards would die as well beacuse he protects a majority of them.

    ReplyDelete
  43. aadusiaw3, do you like dat book?
gfleck3, your book sounds verry intresting i would like to read it

  44. The book i am currently reading is The Roar.
    By:Emma Clayton
The theme of my book is to always be aware of what is going on around you because you never know when someone is right there to get you.
In the book one of the main characters gets captured twice.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  48. My book is Tom Clancy Endwar by David Michaels. Im am on page 68. The theme of this book is shockingly never give up. You would not expect this from a science-fiction war book. One of the senteces is "Hope is lost, we are surrounded by spetznaz." "But, I cant give up."

    ReplyDelete
  52. The book I was reading is Twilight. The author is Stephanie Meyer and I finished the book. The theme of this book is love conquers all. It was love at first when Bella saw Edward for the first time. Even though Edward is a vampire and he's not allowed to be with a human, he brakes the rules anyways just to be with Bella.

    ReplyDelete
  53. gfleck3,
I heard the book and the movie was pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  54. sdeemer2,
That book was really good. I kind of want to read it again.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think that the theme of my book has to do with equal rights. My book is Among the free by Margaret Peterson Haddix and I'm on page 58.
For example third children are mistreated and don't have the same rights as others.they are treated badly and accused of eating everything basically

    ReplyDelete
  56. The theme of my book is never judge a book by it's cover. Vlad is a teenage vampire who doesn't have many friends because of the way he looks.(goth)He tries to show people that he is nice despite the fact he may look and act a little diffrent than the rest of his peers.

I am reading the book Vlad Todd: Tenth Grade Slays. It is by Hether Brewer. I am on page 108.

  60. The book I am reading is Love and Peaches by Jodi Lynn Anderson. I just finished my book. The theme of my book is no matter what life gives you, go for it and never regret it. This theme goes for all of the book. For example, Murphy still loves her ex boyfriend and she goes back to talk to him and then everything falls in place.

    ReplyDelete
  61. ebowers4,

  63. sdeemer2,
    I love that book!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I am reading the book Watcher in the Woods by Robert Liparulo. I am on page 36. The theme of my book so far is no matter what situation you get yourself into, there will almost always be one small way out. I say this because the main character in my book is teleported into another place where he has no idea where he is. He almost gets killed by gun shots, bombs and exploded peices of everything. He gets out just in a split second of time to escape with his life.

    ReplyDelete
  65. aadusiaw3,
Your book sounds very moving. I hope you enjoy it.

  68. i dont really know the theme of my book yet but as of right now it looks like she is trying to convince her mom that she needs a job. she just recenly got offered a job and she doesnt know what her mom is going to say. (keep in mind she is only 14 years old). the title of my book is my almost epic summer by adele griffen and i am on page 14.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I am reading catching fire by suzanne collins. Iam on page 76. the theme of me book is loyalty and love. I think the person that wrote it is kinda trying to say that the government can do what ever it wants if they keep it under raps. I also think that the auther is trying to tell the reader that the U.S. is far from anything at this extent.

  75. The book i am reading is called Bridge to Terabithia by Kathrine Paterson. The theme in this book is thst life can be so much easier when you have a friend and imagination. First Jess' life is upsetting but then he meets leslie and she changes his life completley.

    ReplyDelete
  76. aadusiaw3

    Sounds like a good book.

    ReplyDelete
  77. gfleck3

I want to see that movie.

    ReplyDelete
  78. My book is Eldest by Christopher Paolini. I'm on page 113. One of the themes is while you grow more powerful at rapid speeds, your enemy grows at even more intense speeds. While Eragon was learning a slew of new sword skills and spells, Murtaugh had was getting eldunaris under the training of Galbatorix. Kinda unfair. An eldunari is a dragon's "spiritual heart". Eldunaris basically generate and transfer energy to the wielder.

  79. jfuentes,

I've heard that book was good. Lots of people have read it. Maybe I should to.

    ReplyDelete
  81. The book I am currently reading is called Eldest by Christopher Paolini. I am on page 529 out of 1016 pages. The theme of my book could be many things, but the one that stands out to me the most is to never give up hope. This is because eragon must defeat the most powerful man in all of Alagaesia. Even with his hurt back, where a shade named Durza slashed open his back, Eragon still trains to prepare for his battle with Galbatorix. Eragon never gives up hope even when he is in major pain.

  85. I am reading Eclipse. Eclipse is written by Stephenie Meyer. I am currently done with this book. The theme is Bella feels between her love for Jacob and her love for Edward. It is a book about choices and about how we must accept the consequences of our actions.

    ReplyDelete
  86. gfleck3,
That book sounds horrible, no offense.

    ReplyDelete
  87. aadusiaw3,
    Isn't that also a movie?

    ReplyDelete
  88. I have not been able to get a new book yet but my old book is Dr.Franklin's Island by Ann Halam. I am finshed with the book and the theme is Having hope no matter what you go throw. I think this is the theme because the three main characters all have hope they are going to return home even though everyone thinks theiy died.

    ReplyDelete
  89. AAdusiaw3, that book should interesting and fimilar. Is that examble the main idea of the book?

    ReplyDelete
  90. gfleck, thanks for posting that because it sounds like a book I might read or end up reading.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I am reading a book called Waiting for you. It's by Susane Colasanti and i am currently on page 38. The theme of my book is you can do or be anything if you put your mind to it. An example from the book that makes me think this is when Marisa says she had a depressing year last year and she wants to change. So when school starts she goes into 10th grade with a new attitude and makes a FEW new friends.

    ReplyDelete
  92. aadusiaw3,
That theme is true because i know personally sometimes in life i just want to give up but i fight through it because i realized in life once one door closes another one always opens. Even if you have to walk down a hallway or go to a different floor to find that door.(pic(nora) read this comment i made it for you :))

    ReplyDelete
  93. gfleck3
Once again that is true(your theme)

    ReplyDelete
  94. The book I am currently reading is Dear John written by Nicholas Sparks. The page I am currently on is 104. There are mutiple themes in my book, but the one theme that they are trying to get across in the part of the book I am reading now is, once you let someone go you'll never get them back. For example in the book when Savanna tells John that they shouldnt see each other anymore, and then John doesnt want anything to do with her .

    ReplyDelete
  95. aadusiaw3
    Sounds like a good book.

    ReplyDelete
  97. The book i am reading is called October Sky by Homer Hickam. I am on page 50. The that i think of is to use the talents that you have. The main character is smart and builds rockets but gets picked on. His brother is athletic and plays football and he has lots of friends.

That's a good lesson for everyone to learn.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I am reading a book called *The Outsiders* it is by S.E Hinton. I am on page 45. I think the theme to this book is to never give up and go on with life. The reason I say that is because in the book the greasers always get put down by the Socs, but no side ever gives up. I also say it because in this book there is always a lot of fight and someone is aways getting killed. Through out the book one of the brothers get killed, but the rest of the gang keep on going they try not to remember what happend and try to live life the best way they can.

  103. I am reading The Third Eye by Lois Duncan. I am currently on page 211. The theme of my book is that Karen has a psychic gift and how she uses it for the good of the comunity. This is because she can see Bobby even though no one else can. She doesn't know how she can see him.

  106. I am reading Kira, Kira by Cynthia Kadohata. I am on page 240.The theme of this book is family strength. This is because Katie loves her family. Katie risks a lot for her family. Her older sister, Lynn, becomes ill with lymphoma and her family starts falling apart so Katie must become strong and help keep her family together.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I am reading A Wrinkle In Time by Madeline L'Engle. Im on page 143. The theme of my book is being different doesnt always mean you're dumber than other kids. For example Meg's teacher sent Meg to the principle's office because she coundn't answer a history question that she forgot. Just because she acts different then other kids.

    ReplyDelete
  108. lmehan4,

  109. kbroome4,
    Interesting book you've chosen.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I just finished the book The lightning Thief. I think the theme of the book is to overcome your fears. In the book Percy Jackson has to face up to monsters and demons. He also has to fight Ares the God of War and Hades the God of the Underworld. And he also had to fight Medusa. He really had to face his fears.

    ReplyDelete
  111. @llindsay

  112. @Cmazza
That sounds like a creepy book.

    ReplyDelete
  113. The book that i am currently done reading is "The Secret Agent on Flight 101" by Franklin W. Dixon. I think the theme of this book is that you can not trust anyone. An example from the is when the hardy boys catch the bad guy Mr. James who was actually "on their side" but when the hardy boys caught him in action Joe said "you back stabbed us how could you". In the end it turned out that Mr. James was just trying to keep the Hardy boys away from the truth.

  116. My book is authorized of the fantasy classic. The Book I'm reading is "The Lord Of The Rings" by J.R.R Tolkien.I am on the current page 22. Theme of my book is When you believe something can be done, really believe, your mind will find the ways to do it. Believing a solution paves the way to solution for example, the Lord swarmed out to conquer all middle-earth, Frodo and Sam struggled deep into Mordor, seat of Lord's power. To defeat the dark lord, the accursed Ring Of Power had to be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom.

    ReplyDelete
  117. The book i am reading is "Into the wild" by: Sarah Beth Durst and i am currently on page 20. The theme of my book so far is magical. Julie (the main character) takes an adventure into the wild and finds all these creatures of all sorts from other fictional sorties. All in one. Julie is excited about this adventure and she does this adventure to save her family... This is fictional because she has all these magical creatures (the theme) when in real life she could save her family.

  120. The book I am reading is Diary Of a Wimpy Kid. I am on page 96. The theme of my book is going through middle school and or high school is not always a breeze. Such as when an older brother or sister of yours (in my book older brother) spreads a very bad rumor around your school. It will keep spreading like a virus! But, you will most likely try to stop it. Just like Greg tried to do in my book.

    ReplyDelete
  121. @gfleck3 Your book sounds good.

  122. @Droller4,

Never heard of the book "Deeper" is it good?

    ReplyDelete
  123. My book is called "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." The author is C.S. Lewis and I'm on page 10. The theme of my book is that you can always use your imagination. For example, when the four kids are at the new house and they don't know what to do. They play hide-n-seek and Lucy, the youngest girl, finds a wardrobe and she hinds in it. She then enters the world of Narnia. She uses her imagination a lot and that is the theme.

  132. I am reading Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. I am on page 54. The theme of my book is "Fight for what you believe in." This quote applies to my book because the main character, Opal, Wants to keep the dog she found in the store. She named the dog after the store, "Winn-Dixie." Yet, her dad won't let her keep him. But she keeps fighting...And hopefully she gets to keep him. (Yes, I have sent the movie so I know what happens.)

  141. The book I am reading is called Vladimir Tod: eighth grade bites. The author of the book is Heather brewer. I am currently on page 46.
To me the theme of the book is accept who you are. I think that because in the book it says how sometimes he wished he was a normal boy. When in reality he is a vampire. He can do some things that most kids can't do. But somehow he still wishes he could be normal.

  143. My book is called Mystery of the Bamboo Bird, by Carolyn Keene. I am on page 11. I think the theme of the book is to think of others before yourself. An example to show this is when Louise just wakes up at 3am and smells smoke, instead of her just letting the girls who hate her die, she saves all of the girls at the Starhurst school.Another is when Louise attempts to save the new girl even if she has to run through the fire.

  147. The book I am reading is Dairy Queen. The author is Catherine Gilbert Murdock, I finished the book. The theme of my book is to not care what other people say and to do what you think is right. In the book some guys kept telling her that she would never make the team because she is a girl and she is weak. There is also a lot of places in the book were people pressured her to do something, but she did what she thought was right.

At first he thinks his family moving is the worst thing that ever happened to him, untill he saaw how big the house was. Then he decided he could like it. Then wierd things begin happening. Now he regrets ever leaving the city.

  156. The boook I'm reading is called "Lawn Boy," by Gary Paulsen. I'm currently done with the book. I think the theme of my book is realitic fiction. I say this because in my book something happened that could really happen in real life. Waht happened was that a little got a gift from his grandmother and started making money off of the gift. It was a lawn mower.

  159. I was reading a book named Telling Christina Goodbye by Lurlene McDaniel. I finished the book in one day and it was very addicitng. I could not put the book down because it was soo good. I think the theme of my book is "small things mean a lot in th end." I think this because out of the four people who were in the car only three lived to tell what happened, BUT one was in a coma, one can't remember the key part of what happened and one is not telling EVERYTHING that happened. Tucker, Christina's boyfriend, was driving the car when they got into an accident.
