Blog #11 Due: Monday 11/22/10

This week we are focusing on Text Structure. Think about the book you are currently reading, what kind of text structure does the author use the most. Your book might use more than one text structure. Be sure to give an example from your book that supports the text structure you think is present. If you need help refer to your notes on page 33/34 of your notebook. Remember to include the title, author, and page you are currently on. Also, do not forget to comment twice!

195 comments:

  1. I am reading the book named Hunted:Fake ID by Walter Sorrells. I am on page 130. The text structure that he uses most is cause and effect. Walter Sorrells also uses descriptive and problem/solution text structure in the book, but he mostly sticks to cause and effect. I know cause and effect is a text structure Walter uses because he says once "because I know how hard Ben had worked for this kind of money I felt special that he would use it for me." The author, Walter Sorrells uses a lot of the key words for cause and effect text structure like because of, therefore, and since.

  2. The book I am reading is called Faith, Hope and Chicken Feathers by Andrea Wyman. It is about three kids named Sophie, Harper, and YL. They are all new in the eigth grade. The text structure is mainly placed in chronological order, one vent following another. Cause and effect is definately another text structure, because of all the pranks pulled.

  3. The book I am reading is called the Clique by Lisi Harrison. I am on page 76. The author uses chronological order. I know this because the date is on the top of each page in a new chapter. They go in chronological order. The author doesn't use words like First, Second or Lastly but you can still tell its chronological order.

the text structure of my book is problem/solution. the main characters, Will and Chester, are presented with many problems, such as the death of Will's younger brother, and the fact they are lost 15,000 feet underground.

  14. I am reading The Education of Little Tree by Forrest Car. Im on page 79. The text structure most used in this book is probably problem and solution. this is because they have a problem with having one of their best dogs die but then they remembered they have dogs that are just as good as Ol' Ringer. Also I think so because they have to make whisky and they can't seel it so they drink it.

  24. The book I am reading is Ike/Abilene to Berlin and it’s by Stephen E. Ambrose. I am on page 80. The text structure that the author uses the most is chronological order and description. I think it is chronological order because it’s talking in the past and getting more into modern time. I think it is description because it has a lot of details and it gives a lot of different characteristics about the topic.

  27. I am reading The Maze Runner by James Dashner. I am on page I am on page 44. The text structure is Problem/Solution. I know this because when Thomas found himself in the "glade" he wanted answers on how he got there. Also, he has questions about the maze and about the slang all the children there use. A good question Thomas said was, “Why do they need a graveyard for a place full of teenagers." With how this story has been going I believe he is about to find out why!

  54. I am reading the book the Grave, by James Heneghan. It is cause and effect because they are trespassing when they aren't supposed to, and they end up falling in a ditch which sends them back in time. Also this book could be problem solution, because he is stuck in the 1500's and he wants to get back to the regular time, but he doesn't know how. So basically my book could have multiple text stuctures

  62. My book is PLANTS WITHOUT LEAVES by Ross E. Hutchins. I have just completed this tedious read earlier :D! I think my book's text structure is description. The author gives characteristics about algae, fungi, slime-molds, lichens, liverworts, mosses, and horsetails. When the author is talking about lichens they describe how they are made up of both fungi and algae, and how some appear to be an unidentifyable crust on a tree.

  72. My book is named Girls That Growl; the author of this book is named...Mari Mancusi. The page that I am currently on is page 94. The text structure of my book is ... cause and effect. An example of this is “Because Rayne joins the cheerleading squad... now she can spy on the cheerleaders and see exactly why they are growling". The reason why, is because they are ware wolf but... they don't know what they do the night before when the night before, they change into ware wolf and can't control them selves. Then... some people start missing like the cheerleaders' boyfriends and some of the football players. Soon they don't have a football team and it is all because theses cheerleaders don't know what they are doing on a full moon.

  79. I am reading a book called "the green glass see" by Ellen Klages. I am on page 120. My book is a novel. A novel most of the time is a discpriptive writing. The reason my book is this text structure is because in the book,it descrives how she moves from one place to another, and it tells how she feels about new place. It is also a compare and contrast text structure. The reason is because she compares her old place with her new plzce where her dad lives. He lives in New Mexico. It also takes time during the war, so everything around is very secreat and no one is able to hare any information.

  82. The book that I am reading is called "Dracula." The author's name is Bram Stoker and I'm on page 25. I think the text structure is problem and solution. An example from the book is when Jonathan realized he was a prisoner to Count Dracula. That would be the problem, the solution would be when he finds a way out by going through the windows and crossing the castle ledges.

When Jessica's balloon floats into the rafters of the gym, Joey races and climbs up on the rafters to get Jessica's balloon. Then the Coach, who is in charge, yells at him right in front of the girl and a bunch of other people and calls him a monkey. Later the next day when Ronnie goes to see Joey, he finds Joey in a tree. 103. I just finished reading Best friends for never. By Lisi Harrison. The text structure that the author uses the most would probably be problem/solution.For example, Massie and Claire stayed up half the night sewing uniforms for a competition, but they put them in black trash bags and there maid thought they were trash so threw them out. So Massie had to unregretfully agree to work with Claire in order to win the competition.

Cause and effect; Because Mackie is not of this world he has to fight the monsters trying to steel him. He might just loose the battle!

I am reading the HURT GO HSPP BY GINNY RORBY and I am currenly on page 298 and one text sructure that my book shows is cause and eefect. An example of this would be when the main character, joey willis was told not travel but she did anyway.Since she did not listen to her mother she was attacked by this crazy homeless man who thought it was fuuny that she was afraid of him so he chased up and own the streets of San Fran cisoco.Did i mention she is deaf witch means if she were to step into the road and cant't hear a car horn blow she could or would possibly get ran over, which makes the problem alot worse. This is why i say that my author uses cause and effect the most in the book.

  143. The book I am reading is The Fire Within by Chris D'Lacey. I have already read this book once and I finished it again. The book is kinda like cause and effect because when David moves in with his new family he finds out about the dragons and how they come to life.He can also controle them using his mind. If he wouldnt of ever movied in with the new family there wouldnt be cuase and effect.

tfowler3: i like books that pull pranks on people so i might just have to read it.

ekeck4:i like hauted books, i love to watch scarey movies and stuff.

  145. ekeck04, I agree with you and with the key words. My book dont have the key words so it was kind of hard for me to identify the text structure.

  146. tfowler, this book sounds more like a chronological book. So i agree with you on the chronological order.

  147. The book i am currently reading is called Nurse by Peggy Anderson. The page i am currently on is 183. The main text structure in my book is cause and effect. I say that because it's a book about nursing and usually things that happend to a patient is a cause and what happens to the earlier is a effect. A main example in the book is when this man gets into a motorcycle accident and the effect is that he has o go to the hospitial and get both legs amputated.

  155. I am reading the book Shakespear's Secret. This book is by Elise Broach. I have recently finished the book. So I am currently not on a page. The text structure of my book is Cause/Effect because when something happens or when Hero the main character does something something else happens to follow in its place, hence the effect. For example, in the book Hero tells one of her friends that she likes this boy and the effect is that her friend toldsomeone and then the boy found out, it was a rumor. The cause was that she told someone she couldnt trust.

  156. I am reading Bad Girls Don't Die by Katie Alender. I am currently on page 117. So far the text structure is cause and effect. 163. My book is Dreamland. The author is Sarah Dessen. I'm on page 10. The text structure in this book would have to be problem and solution. It would be this because she has many problems and they get solved. Practically all of Sarah Dessens book are like this.

  175. I am reading the book Lincoln: As I Knew Him. The author of my book is Harold Holzer.I am currently on page 60. The text structure my book is descriptive. An example of the descriptive text structure I found in my book was when Mary Todd Lincoln's sister Elizabeth described mary's and Lincolns wedding. She used many descriptive words such as "elegant and romantic". Therefore, the books text structure is descriptive.

  186. The title of my book is Nobody's Duaghter. The author is Susan Beth Pfeffer. I am currently on page six. I am only at the beginning of my book, but i kind of think it's a cause/effect and problem/solution text structure. I think this because on pages 4/5 she doesn't have any where to stay because her aunt passed away. So right now they're trying to find her a home.
